  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet Interchangeable + Mini Primes

I have to think that Century or someone else will make a wide angle adapter for the fixed 2/3rd's Scarlet.

BTW, I am not trying to spread FUD and I have heard absolutely nothing to lead me to this way of thinking, but I would not be surprised if Scarlet 2/3rd's is 86'd. I am not trying to start a debate on the merits of 2/3rd's (for many uses it's excellent), nor be contentious.

All I'm saying is that when the camera was $3K for 3K it was a no brainer. A few years later and @ twice the price, the world is a different place... in some ways very sadly so.

Again, I'm not trying to start a forest fire in any way shape or form. I'm just saying that IF this happens, I believe it's possible to connect the dots as to why it happened.

Scarlet would still be by far the lowest cost 2/3" video camera or digital replacement for S16mm film out there, and should compete well with cameras several times its price. There is a huge market for 2/3" format.
35mm is nice, but for many uses not convenient or practical.

Every s35 sensor should come with a good focus puller.. otherwise the results will be somewhat, umm, out-of-focus-y

Personally, I love the look of the s16mm format, suits my own tastes in film

I couldn't agree with you LESS about the viability of this camera, but that's just an opinion. As to their canceling it, I think you haven't been following the situation very closely; the likelihood of that is as close to zero as you can get. And I am not at all clear on the "dots" of which you speak. :001_unsure:

EDIT: One clarification, I was speaking of the 2/3" in general - since it is quite clear, IMO, that the Fixed is nearly ready to roll. If you were specifically referring to the interchangeable Scarlet, then, with the current confusion about what Ted did or didn't mean or say, I won't claim to be quite as confident.

yea it seems that the fixed is ready to roll, but delays occur because of the aftermath of the quake in japan

hope this is understandable english *ggg*

The fixed Scarlet WILL come out. As to your argument about the price, 3K for $3 was a dream....but the ambition of Jim and the RED team have made it even better. What you get for around $6,000 is unheard of. Look at the specs, then go on B&H and see if you can find a camera with anything close to the specs of the Scarlet. The Sony EX-1 is $6,000 right now with a mail in rebate. Is that camera worth $6,000? two years ago yes, but now with the advent of the Scarlet, it is not.

I want to know why you have so little faith in a camera that is $6,000, which out performs nearly every camera on B&H photo, even the cameras ranging in the $50,000-$90,000 price range. Seems like a huge sell point to me. . .
