Seems appropriate that Jim's comment of last night make its way into this portion of the forum. If for no other reason than to calm the naysaying.

As most probably know, Jim announced that Epic development has come to the point where RED is getting ready to launch high volume production. And...

"Scarlet is just behind EPIC."

""Scarlet is just behind EPIC..."

Jim"

I love when Jim talks dirty like this... ;)

Agree with Terry, Jim's words for Scarlet, "not long behind Epic" is music to the ears.

Ah all those people putting money down for AF101 will be be wondering what have l done hehehehe

Red fan boys rule the day, hooorah

Scarlet may become a reality faster than some of us(including myself) thought. The still Jarred posted on Facebook was reassuring. Seems to me that along with working Epic protos there is a working scarlet fixed proto being tested.

Title correction:

Scarlet Getting Closer...but the date of its release are unknown to any man on earth...

:beatdeadhorse5:

Will be shocked and amazed if Scarlets are shipping 6 months from now.

You're probably right. We'll find out on the 17th November. Looks to me like there are two products under that drape. Maybe they've done a fixed lens version too.

I also have seen reports Canon are entering the market for a 35mm sized sensor camera:

What has RED started...

If this is true (especially the 4K upgrade) it would be a pretty serious competitor to the Scarlet/AF-100. I really doubt Canon could pull it off at that price point though.

Thanks for sharing Terry. I missed Jim's comment about the Scarlet in the "epics ready" thread. You just made my day!

I think you're fanning the flames Terry.
Jim said he is beginning to order the parts for epic.

... and begin ordering all the parts and pieces (over 18,000) to begin production. It will take a bit of time to set up the line ...

there's still assembly, fcc test etc etc etc. Scarlet is a while away, summer next year prolly

FDT is too slow on this just because the second below picture is Sony 35mm Mystery camera revealed:

Sony 35mm Mystery (!!??) Camera.

Mystery? Not any more. The Sony Thing Unveiled: Sony PMW-F3L and PMW-F3K Super 35mm Full-HD Compact Camcorder...

Alexa (or any other pretty much high or over priced digital cine camera) should be from Spring 2011 in a real danger:

Add AJA KiPro Mini recorder to Sony PMW-F3L and PMW-F3K then you'll get ProRes 4:2:2.

Add CODEX Onboard recorder to Sony PMW-F3L and PMW-F3K then you'll get 4:2:2 uncompressed video recording.

Also I totally forgot to mention Panasonic AG-AF 100/101...

After all what I saw from upcoming new digital cine cameras only Panasonic GH2 is a real deal...

it's a DSLR like camera, accepts most type of diverse lenses and also shoots very nice movie pictures, 40fps burst shooting...all for about 1000 bucks !!!!
