  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet ETA

I'm not so much concerned with the release date as I am the release order. With all the high profile clients, rental houses and wealthy people with connections I'm afraid it will be another six months to a year before I get my hands on a Scarlet

yea, as a "simple" costumer I'm also worried about this waste of time -
being at the bottom of the food chain, and on top of that an international costumer in Israel... :(

Jorge brings up a very good point. I respect that RED is honoring their loyal customers as they should be first on the pecking order.

But the "rest" of us could be waiting even longer. That'll suck.

So, if I understand you right:

This is good but.
This is bad.

At the same time...

RED has several times stated that there will be no preference for existing customers on the Scarlet.

The Epic has its "stages".
Scarlet doesn't.

FUD-killer-wapor all around

Cheers!
G

is that true? :)
that's really good news!
can you link me to any quote on that?

thanks

Since supposedly there won't be stages then for purchasing an Scarlet, how accessible do you think it will be able to order one once it is finally released? Will the supply meet the demand?

I would have no problem putting a deposit down come pre-order time to ensure getting the camera as soon as possible...

aren't we all... :wink5:

I would have no problem paying for it in full right now up to the $10-12K mark, past that I would need a bit more time. Any longer and I'm going to have to sell more plasma.

I'm sure Mr. Jannard has something in place for this situation and would hopefully let's us know prior to a release.

interesting to hear how many people are planning on picking up the af100. Im pretty tempted myself. I would love to own both the Af100 and either 2/3 scarlet and i imagine they would be a pretty formidable team, I hope that isnt sacrilege to speak that way here ha

I have to be honest I haven't been paying much attention to the outside world with regards to kit but there is a lot of chatter about it. I'm sure it will be a great tool to add to the mix. It will have its strengths and weaknesses obviously.

In short: no.
Everyone at RED knows Scarlet will fly out the door, so production should be at decent numbers from day one. But even with more than reasonable stock, Scarlets will be in backorder a lot for a long time.

You'll be able to get a really good deal on small Sonys and Panasonics though. :-)

this guessing game of supply has been going on since the announcement of scarlet. we really have no idea since the factors are so varied. new competitor cameras, manufacturing changes, new features in scarlet etc plus the fact that we dont even know when this thing is actually gonna be available.

Is there a pool? I'm thinking April.

Of course it is speculation but all we try to planning our future so let's think realistically!
Last post of Jim not very good! The stage 1 of Epic hasn't begun! Soderberg didn't take Epic to shoot! So I see there are some prоblems still with Epic! Problems mean delay!
So If Stage 1 begun in January - needs not less then 2-3 month, then - deleting of bugs - 2-3 month, then release and stage 2 - 2-3 month and then Stage 4. So I think the real date of Epic end of 2011, Scarlet - begin of 2012! And I think we will get more answers at NAB2011! It will be good do see release date of Stage 2 at NAB 2011 even if release date will bу in Summer 2011!

Not quite right Alexey. Stage 1 has already begun, but Soderberg didn't take Epic because he was shooting abroad, and therefore too far away for instant Red support in the event of bugs showing up.

That's good! Maybe some news about Stage 1? Good or Bad? How many Epics ain Stage 1? So if Stage 1 has begun it is means it have to be finished so If Jim has a finished Epic testing can't be more then 4-5 month! So we need to get Stage 2 at the NAB 2011! And any way Stage 4 in the end of 2011 in the best way!

I am sorry, this is not speculation, this is just uninformed and misguided gossip with very little grounding in reality. A little bit reading would be helpful. You can start with these two posts: http://reduser.net/forum/showpost.php?p=665262&postcount=8 and http://reduser.net/forum/showpost.php?p=608784&postcount=63. Obviously, the Stage 1 Tattoo program has expanded since, but it's been ongoing for over 4 months now.

Go get your af, 7d, etc for the meantime. Unless Sony, Canon or the rest of them don't come up with something better than what I've been seeing lately (half-baked cameras) very soon, Red will be right there to clean their clocks. 4/3 sensors with no motorized lenses to match, 8 bit 4:2:0 recording, poor resolution, poor low light, no slo-mo or 720p slo-mo, poor audio, etc. They all seem to be touting one or two cool things, but when you start scrutinizing the specs, they all seem to fail in many areas. I'm patiently waiting. Got a 7D. Keeping my money at hand when the time comes. If the big boys come out with something comparable to Red next year, then Jim might be screwed. But I haven't seen anything yet.

I need a Scarlet, or Epic someday. I won't be a man till I own a Red (I'm 21 now) but we aren't getting news about our little giants, so what about ikonoskop? Does anybody tried one of those? Would anybody buy one? Tell me I want a decent camera

I am very sorry bout my writing skills, been a long time since my last english test.
