Scarlet - Dragon - When will it be there ?

Hi all,

as I am a SCARLET User who decided to go for Scarlet Dragon, I am wondering if you have any thoughts on when it maybe the turn for the Scarlet Users ?

I am planning a feature to be shot end of March 2014. And I hope I do not need to lend a camera by then, rather than shooting in on my own "baby-dragon".

What do you guys think. Is 4,5 Months realistic from now on ?

Ill be lucky if i have my Epic x upgraded by then with an early number in line. I would def have a plan b

I don't know. I agree that having a plan B is a good idea, but I wouldn't be surprised if Dragons are commonplace by next spring.

I bet by June everyone will be happy. No?

How long did the M to MX upgrade take?

I can't believe it will take that long. I'm still betting by June everyone who wanted to upgrade will have Dragon.

Who knows, they dont seem to have really even started upgrades, as there don't seem to be any more Dragons in the wild than there were in September (only specially chosen owners/productions then really, which doesn't count as available for 99% of us), so it's always possible once it picks up it will be fast, but it also could be slow and there could be a lot more delays before that even happens. Epic MX to Dragon upgrades are already about 7months behind, so it seems feasible it could also be another 7 months or more before production really ramps up for all we know... And it sounds like the relative priority of Scarlet MX to Dragon upgrades has dropped significantly, so basically plan for the worst and hope for the best as always.

Sometimes I wonder if RED should really separate their engineering and their marketing so as to avoid the hype and expectations, since disappointment is always about expectations. If they could show us what they are working on without giving us the impression it's a month from the market that might really help. Now I feel like I've been waiting for Dragon for a year even though it really isn't becoming available till around Dec 1st...

I opted in for Scarlet Dragon as well. I know it may take a while but I'll try to make the most of my Scarlet till then. The Scarlet dragon has got all I need. Low light, 5k and decent slow mo. Worth waiting for in my opinion. Can always rent an Epic if I need high frame rates. Hope it will be 2014 at least tough

Based on the Epic Stage 2 and Stage 3 upgrades I would say you won't see an Scarlet Dragon until summer 2014.

Thats a safe bet, but also hope that isn't true. The world is not sitting still. NAB will bring all kinds of new stuff from Arri on the high end and BM on the low. Its a squeeze that I for one wouldn't want to be in the middle of without a superior, and shipping, product.

Dragon before April is probably a no brainer...after...who knows.
