I've turned this on every side and I still can't understand how come the Red Scarlet Dragon which is more expensive than the Red Raven can't do the same frame rates at 4K. Seems totally unacceptable, for the price paid, the Scarlet Dragon needs to be able to capture 4k/120fps.
I'm not sure if this matter was raised before and if so in what thread. The Scarlet Dragon needs to be able to capture 4k/120fps

In comparison of Scarlet Dragon to Raven, we are talking about a camera released in 2014 versus a camera released in 2016.

Jarred/RED has mentioned there's an upcoming upgrade path for Scarlet-minded shooters in the horizon.

It's more about the internal Data Transfer Rates when it comes to REDCODE RAW Compression Ratio and Maximum Frames Per Second:

The RED Dragon Camera Line-up as of 2015.

I can see the new scarlet going up to 170-180MB/s.

9MP sensor vs 19MP sensor. Thats why the Raven can do such low compression and high framerates. it's pushing half the pixels.

Not only. Better electronic, better data rate. The Scarlet Dragon can't make 3:1 4K.

The PRO RES thread here might give you some more insights, Amza. Short answer: The Scarlet Dragon can be an A camera for conforming 6K B roll and 5K lip synch to 4K and by getting Raven to 4.5K, there is probably enough wiggle room for conforming to 4K with it as well as a B camera on shoots.

Additionally, the PRO RES options should make RAVEN more valuable as a rental camera than a Scarlet so I certainly see your point. But this is why they refer to Scarlet as an ugly duckling. It really has more value to struggling producer/filmmakers than to anyone else but there are quite a few out there so that's probably your secondary answer.

If this doesn't satisfy you, no worries, as it actually don't sit all that well with me either. Editing with a Scarlet Dragon compared to a Scarlet MX is a serious challenge for me now to say the least but the picture is better and that's about it. Time marches on!

Because RAVEN hasn't been released yet. If you need to purchase a camera right now, Scarlet Dragon is still a good value - and Scarlet Dragon will be upgradeable - to Epic, Weapon, etc., whereas we don't know, to date, if RAVEN will be upgradeable. Plus, the Scarlet Dragon has been promised an upgrade, though we don't know the specs yet. Also Scarlet has interchangeable OLPFs and lens mounts, if this is important to you.

If you don't have an immediate need, it is probably best to wait until more information is available about the Scarlet upgrade specs. Probably around NAB, unless Jarred loses his self-restraint in the wee hours....
