I figure this must have been tested at some point, but I can't find any posts about it. Does anyone know what the read/reset time is for the Scarlet Dragon? How is the rolling shutter compared to Scarlet MX?

I believe on Epic Dragon, the reset time was apparently twice Epic MX, so I'd have to imagine Scarlet Dragon is probably similar

Nick- the Dragon re-set time is actually slower? That is surprising. Do you recall where that information was from? Thanks.

Sorry - meant faster. Twice as good. Can't remember where I saw that. Came up early on during Toia's first tests. He noticed a lot less rolling shutter, and I believe someome from RED chimmed in and mentioned reset time was twice as good.

Ah, OK - that makes a bit more sense to me. For perspective - and I am digging deep into the recesses of my memory here - but IIRC, the read/reset time for Epic was in the 8-9 ms time frame. Given that film supposedly has an effective read/reset time of 4ms (the time it takes for the gate to pass), Dragon must be pretty close to that.

There are some quotes from the RED Team somewhere on REDUser that mention the refresh rate of the sensor is a lot faster, which should reduce quite a bit of rolling shutter. I'll try to find some more information in my spare time.

Scarlet Dragon has virtually no rolling shutter. It will never be an issue. With Scarlet MX it can be a problem sometimes.

On the REDTOOLS app there is only a minor difference between the MX sensor at 5k and the Dragon sensor at 5k, with Dragon obviously being slightly better. But I don't think thats a definitive answer.

Does it actually list read-reset times in REDtools?

No I'm sorry I should have clarified that. That was based off of the recommended pan speed section of the application.
