Does anyone know how long burst mode lasts on Scarlet Dragon, and does it vary depending on frame rate when shooting 6k? (ie 6k at 12fps vs 6k at 4fps)?

Thanks

I could be wrong here ( and I usually am) but burst mode ? Aren't we just shooting video at a certain frame rate and pulling stills? Keep capturing those 12fps until your card is full ... There's no stills mode on Red?

Burst mode for a limited amount of frames records at a lesser REDCODE RAW compression scheme, which is useful for stills. It depends on your frame rate and resolution how long you can go for.

In the spec for the Scarlet Dragon, it says: "6K FF: 12 FPS (in Burst mode)" -- so how long is this burst-time? If it's until the mag is full, why then call it burst mode..?

Whenever they discuss Data and Acquisition of Data, you should think of it as a Facet streaming water; in the case of Burst Mode, the cup becomes full and stops the facet from streaming water(or the Processors' buffer) and you'd need an "Epic" processor to continue on!

Sensor -> Processor -> Codec
Dragon -> Epic -> RedCode 4-1 = 6k @ 75fps (maximum) w/Red mini-mag & 512GB SSD
Dragon -> Epic -> RedCode 13-1 = 6k @ 150fps (maximum) w/Red mini-mag & 512GB SSD
Dragon -> Scarlet -> RedCode 8-1 = 5k @ 24fps (maximum)
Dragon -> Scarlet -> RedCode 16-1 = 5k @ 48fps (maximum)

Peer, I believe what you are missing, in that everyone is saying, that the Scarlet Dragon is not meant to shoot video at 6k, it's designed to shoot stills at 6k and Video at 5k. So you're wasting your time trying to consider these 6k video options.

All the Information is here: DSMC Media Operation Guide
Scarlet Dragon is Page #78

No, I know quite well that the burst mode on the Scarlet Dragon is for shooting stills -- but what I (along with the OP) don't know is how long this burst mode lasts -- hence the question. To me, the word burst means a short, finite... burst. I.e., it would be helpful to know how long this burst buffer is when shooting stills. For example, the 6K burst on a Canon 1DX is only 3 sec of 14 fps -- although this is in RAW, it's still too short for me.

Scarlet Dragon will shoot up to 12 FPS continuously (only limited by media space) at 6K resolution.

I was just trying to illuminate the fact that compression ratio is another factor involved is the maximum quality allowed.
