Scarlet Deal of a Lifetime

Just placed my order - this is almost like a dream come true!!!!

I'm a little pissed over this deal. I mean we purchased this camera months ago and this happens. I would hate to be the ones that are trying to sell their Scarlet(s) now.

Hey Delvon:

Believe me, I can understand the frustration and the pain. Imagine...we waited and waited and waited for ever for the SCARLETS to come out...then brilliantly I told my partners..."I don't think the SCARLET will come out any day soon."

Last September we purchased a fully configured RED ONE at almost $30K (we could not justify paying $50K for the EPIC...not for the type of work we do)...then November 3rd comes around and the SCARLET is announced...RED ONE's start to appear on Ebay and elsewhere...$4,000, $5,000, $8,000 fully configured. Imagine how my heart sank to the floor...facing my partners.

But you know what?, at the end of the day, when we turned on our RED ONE and compared the quality of the image to all our past jobs...the point was mute. We figured, the RED ONE will pay for itself...and in less than a year it already has.

Just know that you have an awesome piece of equipment...and this is just a special offer..when these BT SCARLETS are sold, the prices go up (I assume)

Oh and about your question:

"Can you give me an example of other companies like Canon, Arri, Sony, etc of doing this type of marketing/hype/sale.?

NAB...they always offload their new equipment for nothing...I've bought a camera on the NAB floor....

Oh, my... I leave for a week and all hell breaks loose. Apparently Jarred has gone rogue.

I told him when I left that he was in charge. Look what happens...

All is good in the world.

Jim

Haha - I just wish Jarred had rented them Epics instead! LOL

My philosophy, don't buy anything you can't afford. The value isn't in the cost of the goods, but in what it can deliver. Doesn't matter how much things cost, if it sits on a shelf. Use it, abuse it.. life is short. A cameras life is much shorter :)

I hope there is some deals in the works with other RED accessories for us loyal & committed RED owners that waited many many months to purchase this great camera.

Bummer for us!!!

Huh? I dont understand...

Delvon did you not shoot ANYTHING over the past months you've had the camera?

My time, experience and work I have done with the Scarlet since I ordered on Nov. 3rd is WAY more valuable than a few thousand dollars.

Good on RED for giving a kick ass deal for those on the edge.

Yeah, you perfectly summed up what I was going to post.

I'm really excited for all the people that can now get a Scarlet because of this deal. I've been trying to get as many people as possible to get in on this deal.

Well I am a little sad but I am not angry. I purchased a Scarlet in July at full freight and now with the price reduction I wanted to pickup a second but spent all my cash over the last 2 months because I like anyone on this forum couldn't see this coming.

However I love my current Scarlet and I expect the Dragon upgrade will pump even more life into my Scarlet next year. Who knows... if business is good between now and then I may be even upgrading to an Epic (and keeping my Scarlet). While this price reduction may lead to potential buyers in the future offering some of us only $7100 max for a resale I personally don't worry about that. I would never sell my Scarlet anyway and can always use it indefinitely even if I upgrade to the next generation of cameras. It's not like the old days of working with MiniDV tapes and such where those cameras have become useless.

And I do not expect RED to be offering a deal like this on Scarlets anytime soon after they run out of this batch. So new buyers will get tired of waiting for the next deal and the market will go back up for all current Scarlets which are out there.

Personally, I don't see this affecting the Scarlet after sale market that much - it's a special deal. After all have found new homes, the price of a new one is the same as it's been for a while... therefore, someone looking to buy one has two options - purchase new at list or find a second user one.

If you've had the unit for a while, it should have brought some income in.

I purchased an Epic a few weeks before the current deal of get an Epic and Dragon upgrade for free... I also got an old style EVF shortly before the new version came out... so I 'lost' $7K (or more)... but I didn't really loose it - I had my Epic & EVF :)

Simply, if I want to upgrade, it'll cost me.

Everything is relative.

That's all folks... Thanks for all your support. Brent has all of you guys scrambling to get things together still accounted for so make sure you keep contact with him to make sure your order goes through.

That was fun! hopefully we can do it again.
