  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet clues...

...It will not be a shirt pocket camera.
It will look different than you imagined.
It will be all metal, no plastic....
It will weigh more than any pocket consumer camera...

Hope that helps.

jim

So, will it fit in the trunk of my Tesla Roadster??? :umm:

understood.

i guess part of my question was whether or not the prototype at NAB was specifically intended to prompt feedback, ideas, etc....in order to make the camera even better.

It seems like past experience indicates RED's willingness to listen to the end user throughout the development process, something those other manufacturers seem to forget.

Can you tell us if a time frame for Scarlet's development and release will be announced at NAB?

thanks!

Scarlet will most likely go on sale (or wait-list) on 04.30.08
http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11440

That will give Jim and his team the opportunity to get proper feedback at NAB before deciding on the final touches and perhaps price...

Than again - as Jim always says:

"Everything in life changes... including our camera specs and delivery dates..."

REDCODE RAW is going to become a force to be reckoned with in the industry. Red should even develop its own NLE.

Oh god no. Please not another NLE. Can't we jst focus on making the ones we've got better? There's not a lot of new wheels to be invented in non-linear editing - just a lot of wheels to refine.

One question that hasn't been discussed here [or at least I never saw such thing} is whether the Scarlet camera would be also modular to some degree?

Upgradable?

Or maybe that'd be the main difference with the ONE. (Pfhaha, the One :) )

Good Question! I assume that since this camera will send shock waves all the way to Tokyo, (or whatever City the Japanese cameras makers' headquarters are in) the camera will be upgradeable. Nothing feared more by practically all manufacturers these days than non-obsolescence:nuke:

Remember that two years ago we were a scam. We didn't go from scam to super-heroes overnight. We still need time to pull all this stuff off.

Jim

WHA...WHA....WHA... Give me a break Jim! Now I bet your going to push back the RED anti Global-warming pill, and we mite as well forget the Red Home Fusion Reactor. I just don't know how you can live with yourself...

so....
there you have it...

it's gonna be a digital slr, shooting stills at 12MP, recording to flash, with a large variety of mounts (from PL to NIkon to Canon), able to shoot at 2k at at least 30p, hdmi out, no big xlr's but small ones...
why?
the perfect perfect directors viewfinder, and sport's camera, when you do take Photos and Video - if you want...
Fits all lenses, so any photographer will love it...
provided with a 18mm-70mm lens...
live preview common with the newer slr's..

a guess, i admit, but that's what scarlet will (should) be...

only two days to go ;-)

The slavery of obsolescence lasted long enough!

Modular designs of the world, unite!

The release date (sort of) will be announced at NAB. This camera represents a new category. Of course we will listen, but I'd be very surprised if there is much to talk about.

Jim

A new category? I've had my faith in scarlet since I first heard. I really wish I could be there @ NAB, missing it by 2 weeks. I'll be in Vegas by the 26th, any chance you guys will still be around?

Anyone see the new canon hdv monster snailware. well scarlet is going to stomp it into oblivion and the ex1 and the hvx200. jim you have no idea what you've let yourself in for. when the details of scarlet are released you're going to have to barracade the doors of red shut because everyone making any kind of flick is going to want one. lots of indies lots of dreams.

you know sometimes its like watching the wright brothers or howard hughes without the funny hygene habits. I wish I could transport the film pioneers from the past to this future and show them what you've done I think they'd all weep in appreciation. I know sometimes we give you a hard time on here and sometimes we get a little nitpicky. but you've stepped up to the plate everytime.

thank you
