Loving the Scarlet. Amazing tool.

I suspect firmware tweaks are already in the works, but thought I'd mention a few bugs, and features I'd love... please add / corroborate.

BUGS (in Scarlet Build 2 v2.0.5)
  1. occasionally, in false color mode, the straw / yellow / oranges IRE highlights don't appear, but instead, I see just white.
  2. the entire UI seems to shift to the right a few pixels over time... so a few pixels from the extreme right of the audio menu, creep over to the left hand side of the screen. Seems to go away when I power down.
  3. the 5" monitor flickers ever so slightly in certain conditions. At first I thought it was just the lights, but saw it in daylight as well
  4. programming the buttons has caused the camera to lock up a number of times
  5. I can't seem to locate the "advanced color white balance"... but likely that's just me being slow...

IMPROVEMENTS

  1. option to delete clips in playback mode
  2. 1:1 focus assist mode (either full screen, or a small sampled window) during recording
  3. in playback, a mode that allows the picture to fill the entire screen
  4. customization of the "media status" area so percentage/remaining can be changed to GB/remaining or minutes/remaining
  5. in camera spot metering... like the spot focus function, but a readout of average IRE with the sampled area
  6. option to flip the image on the LCD screen, so it can be mounted upside down (I heard this is coming)
  7. more efficient power management during idle (I heard this is coming)

That's all I've got. Great work RED TEAM.

Delete last clip is not a bad idea. Deleting clips might be a very bad idea due to SSD stability. This has been discussed elsewhere on RedUser.

We know Power Management features are coming. Also coming soon is the "flare guard".

What is the "flare guard" Phil?

What is the "flare guard" Phil?

Currently the Red Epic and Red Scarlet X ship without a flare guard within the sensor box area. In certain situations with really "hot" highlights, usually light sources, it will produce a streak of light often found on the vertical axis of the image. Also, in general flare is more prominent without a flare guard with the sensor box.

This is not necessarily a bad thing at all and many shooters like the accessibility to these in camera flare effects. However, there are certainly situations where you may want some extra protection. For example a just out of frame rim light pointing directly at the lens could produce flare that you may not want in your shot.

Several other users have produced DIY solutions to minimize flare and often completely eliminate the streak effect from ever happening.

Red themselves is producing a simple device to place within the sensor box area to eliminate/minimize flare.

One thing that I like to se is to mark good takes with just a press of a buttom. I saved lot of time in editing using this.

When ever someone makes a list like this I am going to say 1.5K @ 96 fps. I really can use a 1.5K mode for my web work (A lot of which is 720p). I see this as the sweet compromise between 1K @ 120 and 2k @ 60.

Has Red ever mentioned a Pre-Record option, where you can set a certain amount of time, say 5 seconds, and when you press record, that clip actually starts 5 seconds earlier, it would be great for saving footage space when doing doc work as well as making sure you don't miss the shot"

I think a lot of the cameras that do this do so with a hardware buffer not via firmware so I don't know if this can be incorporated into the scarlet with the hardware thats already in existence.

I would think that there is a substantial buffer already built into the camera already. So, I'd think this to be possible. Just a guess, of course.
