  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet (and shipping) announcement Nov. 3rd...

Well if they scrapped the Epic-S and bumped the Scarlet up to 4k then I guess I'm one of those that would gladly spend $10k...or even $12k for one!

Don't forget accessories.

The basic brain may be $6k (complete speculation on my part, just as an example) and then you have SSD/Media/LCD/EVF/Batteries etc. I'd be stocking up now on the little things, like Red Volts and chargers. Things that everyone is going to need but will defer buying until they have a better idea of what's needed.

It could be a safe bet to envisage a Scarlet purchase the same way an Epic purchase is currently represented in the RED store.... base model plus kit form, ready to go, having different price points.

i thought the 6k rumored base including accessories?

I'd prefer the 6K as well Kalani! I hope the price is close to the same, and close to the same camera as planned as it really fit the camera of my dreams but, I honestly am preparing to spend more.

Yeah I'm praying for $6k but expecting $8-10k for a working package. Hopefully I'm in the ballpark or else November 3rd is going to be a sad day for me :D

What does US and UK mean? Isn't the Online store available for other countries? Can the server do that even if the payment comes from an american bank? I almost see myself traveling to the US just to place the order if this is the case....

This was posted so expect more than $6k (an F3 is $12k and the package is $19k):

1. We have moved from the less robust Scarlet S35 chassis to the EPIC S35 chassis (like going from the economy car frame to the truck frame). Pro, not prosumer.

2. We are trying to maximize the performance specs given the cost cutting from the hardware, including board reductions. This is no small task but is a primary focus within engineering.

3. Frame rates and data rates in combination with project sizes will be the primary compromises in comparison with the big brothers (EPIC-X and EPIC-M). You can anticipate about 1/2 the overall data throughput. As soon as the engineers finalize the list... I will post it.

4. HDRx will be included, but with limited frame rate options as is anticipated in #3 above.

5. Price has risen due to the chassis and HDRx change/additions. Expect somewhere in the neighborhood of $12K. Package prices will be posted as soon as we are sure what they will be. We will not post another "interim" price structure in the meantime. Next price posting will be final.

6. EPIC-S will use the same production line as its big brothers (which we are setting up now in California) so there will be no additional delays to produce this model. However, the EPIC-M and EPIC-X models will be released 1st as has previously been noted.

7. EPIC-Ms are currently being produced in low quantities and will step up just a bit this month (January). Production EPIC-X is scheduled to begin small production end of February with a fairly significant ramp up in March. Major volume begins in April. Many of you will have your EPIC-X by NAB. EPIC-S should begin production in May... depending on EPIC-X orders.

From what i've read here, it currently works like this: the online-store is of course available to everyone, you can place your order here. Then, if you're from europe, Team RED will contact you and offer to transfer your order to RED UK.

Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Speculation on my part only....but:

Bomb EVF: $3,200
5.0" Touch Screen: $1,600
SSD SIde Module: $1,500
1 x 128GB SSD: $1,800
1 x 4 Pack of Redvolts: $750
1 x Travel Charger: $125
1 x AC Power Adaptor: $150
1 x Epic/Scarlet Mounting Plate: $100
1 x RedMote: $550

Sub Total: $9,775.

Plus Scarlet itself.

I don't know any details on the Scarlet price or packaging options, but if it is $6k then a full "working kit" could be around the $16k mark, based on the above guess work.

Still a pretty good deal in my books.

This is a VERY big issue actually, I am ready to spend an airline ticket if it means that the servers will attend only within the US and UK. Could someone from Red chime in on this?

Glad you posted this - was going to do the same as everyone is really excited about Scarlet now, but you must factor in the other costs of ownership :)

Actually this was never the case with RED's online store, you can place orders from everywhere and get the goods shipped to everywhere. I just don't know how exactly they're handling the transfers to UK's store and if this will be changed with Scarlet's launch. Maybe there will be a second website for RED UK's online-store?

Well nope.. I think Jarred wrote that we can just order it from the US store and they will handle all the things to transfer it to UK.. we will have more info on that on the 3rd..

...though the latest estimated 6K price wasn't for the brain only, but for a fully functional package - including monitoring, recording and power...

It'll still be a steal for sure... but it will be missing the target. To truly make history, they're really need a RAW camera for a consumer price point ($5k-$8k)... anything above that and people will just stick with the other manufactures for the FS-100 and AF-100 priced cameras. There is MUCH more money in pro-sumer and enthusiast shooters than "professionals".

If a shootable Scarlet is available for $6k... I can almost guarantee that they will sell twice (maybe 3x) as many than if it was a $12k camera. Nobody will even look at "the big guys" any more if Red can hit this market and price point. There just won't be ANY competition or second thoughts from people... just Red cameras.

I'm really pushing for this. Red's already done damage on the high-end pro-market... they just need a consumer-priced option now to really clean house. I just think that a $10k and up price won't have as much of an impact. Of course, it'll still be a kick-ass camera either way...

This is accurate. To be sure, however, media was never indicated as part of the package, despite the fact that some non-RED personnel have posted assumptions to that effect.

To be even more explicit: I recall the original $6K package was a Scarlet Fixed body/brain with side CF Module, a REDmote, a Sidehandle, a power supply/charger with one REDvolt, and a 2.8" touch LCD (which, of course, no longer exists). One could assume a bump from this level since a) REDmote price has gone up, b) SSD module may likely replace CF module at higher cost, the 5" LCD will be more than the 2.8" LCD, and, I believe, the side handle price may have also gone up. Of course, there is no longer any clarity as to whether this will be the actual package or even whether the Fixed is the Scarlet that will be announced.

Honestly, I have followed the progress of the Scarlet Fixed very closely for well over two years and with all the recent cryptic comments and suggestions from Jim and Jarred, I have no frickin' idea what to expect on November 3rd.

All in all, pretty exciting!!! :emote_happyhappy:

I agree with a lot of what you said - but I suppose we should also remember that Jim specifically took RED out of the "consumer" market awhile back when he said RED was aimed at exclusively the pro market. I guess that begs the question of whether a "consumer-PRICED option" is the same as a consumer option. :coolgleamA:
