Scarlet and Europe ... lack of infos

Hi,
I received an email from RED Europe, which should clarify everything about taxes on my order:

"
....
Scarlet-X with the Canon Mount - Package
£ 9,580.00
....

Prices are in UK Pounds Sterling and includes import duty and freight charges to the UK
There is only need to pay additional shipping charges from Any London to your delivery address. No more tax needs to be paid Within the EU "

This should stop the speculation.

Greetings from Italy! :wink5:

Why don't they mention VAT?

Hi BenJ,

Did you place an order for a Scarlet X? if yes, what's about the final price in Euro.
Thanks a lot for your response.

No, but I often import things from the USA and you have to pay the VAT on import duties and other taxes (tax on tax).

Delivering "some European Scarlets out the door before Xmas" is extremely pessimistic. I suspect some people in the EU have already been contacted by RED EUROPE on their SCARLETS, actually.

BC

three years of waiting. what is a month, or two, or three compared to a THREE YEARS WAIT...
if i get my scarlet before christmas - nice. if not, no problem.
i know that everyone at red (us and uk) is giving his best.

cheers

Does it actually say that on the email or is that what you have added Luca? If the price of £9580 includes any VAT liability that would be very welcome news!

The price quoted is unit cost + shipping (to the UK) + import duty (£ 9,580.00 for this order)

You'll pay (if in the UK) 20% VAT in addition to any extra in-land shipping (to get it from Red@Pinewood to your location).

You'll then claim back the VAT you've paid from HMRC (if you're registered for VAT in the UK as a business/sole trader etc).

And if you have an european VAT number you´re not gonna pay VAT at all.

Might be wrong but I think you'll have to pay your countries VAT first and then claim it back from your tax office?!

EDIT:
Btw, on my red.com account the package price states £9,645.00 right now, will it change to £ 9,580.00 once they contact you or why does Luca have a different amount?
Thx!

Just a guess - but it might be an exchange rate difference?

Also I *think* some EU countries avoid the VAT pay loop (ie - we pay it out then claim it back etc) by using VAT reg numbers and just off-setting until the end of the accounting year... I remember reading that somewhere on the forum. I'm sure someone can clarify that :)

Which is how I thought it would work until Luca posted:

Have you guys actually bought through RED Europe before or is this merely speculation on how it works?

Thanks for the info, Simon

Im my personal experience buying from Spain to a country that belongs to European Comunity, and having an european VAT number (wich is the normal one, but you need to ask to be in the register of "operadores intracomunitarios", at least here) you don´t pay VAT. Sometimes I need to ask for it to the seller, but never was a problem.
In the other way around I dont charge VAT when I rent equipment to a Production Company with a european VAT number, except of course if it´s from my own country (Spain).

Then in resume, If you have a valid european VAT number, I think the only cost you need to add to the quote is the transport from London to the new lovely home of your Scarlet.

Hi - this has already been covered in this thread - http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...Price-including-livre-sterling-change-and-vat

and in this one - http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?66351-SCARLET-X-European-order-huge-price-difference - but it seems you posted in that ;)

You are correct it is discussed in those threads, but there is also a lot of contradictory info. One post states UK prices include VAT other posts say VAT is extra. I've only posted on these boards a few days after being a long time lurker and there is SO much information declared here as fact that is merely a supposition or best guess. If anyone has ever actually ordered from RED Europe in the past they'd be able to clear this up instantly. Anyway I guess I'll find out eventually! :) Thanks.

I agree with you. Many contradictory infos. For me it was clear that we have to add VAT and shipping to the 9580£, all paid by red UK when importing. But some infos are in contradiction with that.

Guys - this is from Alan Piper @RED Europe (relating to Epic-M package prices and cost differences in the UK/EU vs the USA:

Just to be clear; RED Europe is a wholly owned subsidiary of RED Digital Cinema. We are not an agent, and we don't mark up prices - UK list prices are in Sterling, are based upon the US list price plus all freight, insurance and import duties to the UK. Thereafter goods are in free transit within the EU and in the unlikely event that Customs were to challenge a product for unpaid duties, the responsibility rests with RED Europe. We have experts in the US who have spent many hours ensuring that our products are correctly classified.
It should be noted that for any goods which are imported into the UK (or elsewhere in the EU) which are 'under-declared', Customs retain the right to revisit the import and charge whatever duty they feel is appropriate.
We do not publish a price list because we need to be flexible and stay in line with foreign exchange rates as closely as we are able to.

The EPIC-M package can be ordered directly from RED Europe. Current price, freight-on-board in London is £38,895.00 GBP That price is subject to VAT where necessary.
We keep a full stock of the entire range of RED products, though we suffer the same back-order issues as may occur from time to time with RED in the US.
Our web team in the US is also working on a UK web site through which you will be able to order from the UK on-line.

Hope that clears things up?

Basically, a similar discussion on price differences etc - thread link http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?61121-EPIC-Ms-now.../page7

Essentially, in the UK, your invoice from RED will be costs+VAT.
