  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet and Epic BUILD 4 BETA

"- Going to 1:1 zoom takes really long and goes with a lot of flickering, sometimes a fading mesh on the screen, sometimes previous zoom images, etc. I recently looked at the zoom feature on a Red One and it was so quick! Would be really nice if the Epic was like the Red One in that regard because going to 1:1 and back is something I use a lot for..."

Ha Ha every single time I'm doing this "zoom thing" my director almost freaking out - he thinks camera is finally fucked up :) this function has to be fixed ASAP.
Really feels like camera malfunction. Please makes it more seamless.

In total agreement. This is starting to make the system look flaky...
A solid quick switch over though would reassure me ( and anyone looking at the monitor) and build confidence. Definitely one to sort sooner than later.

Any ETA on the next build? Have some time to do some testing but don't want to repeat the bugs everyone else has found.

1:1 zoom causes image to freeze for 3 seconds, unfreeze 3 seconds and cycle over and over until I go back to normal. Very difficult to focus.

+1. would love to know as well. Can it be used on motorized movement shots?

Trent,

Is it possible RED will publish a RED 101 on frame summing? Personally I'd like to know more about it and what's actually happening and see some scenarios.

What exactly is going on in summing mode? Is it adding up to 16 frames (exposures) to fake leaving the shutter open for 16 full seconds?

Thanks in advance.

Here are a few quirks I've encountered thus far with build 4: using the turbo cards now offers no benefit on compression (5K 96fps is still 12:1, whereas on the previous build you could go I think 10 or 11:1...) Also, when the turbo cards were formatted in build 4, they were unable to be recognized by older builds in a dear sarate camera...

A question, can we have the frame rate display without the decimals? And if not, will manually typing a true 24 make you not shoot 23.98?

The turbo cards are being held back right now for a new firmware.. some people reported some glitches with some cards so better safe than sorry.

Ironically the decimal points we had a ton of people scream to put them in to be more accurate..... now you all want them out. Heh heh heh. I guess it is best to just make it an option :)

Will that require bringing them in for service? Not a problem if so....

I have to chime in and say I Love pre roll. I'm in Costa Rica shooting everything from wildlife to Soccer on the beach and pre roll is making me a better shooter or its helping me get better shots. Build 4 is working great, 1:1 focus check is a little glitchy, but nothing I can't work around. RED DC is doing great things, and making all of us better at what we do. Thanks guys.

Can't go wrong having it as an option......everyone gets to choose, decimals or no decimals......Jarred, is there any chance of a "delete last clip" function coming later? Or would it be to difficult to make it "idiot" proof?

I've been testing my new REDVOLTs and it seems that i've found a bug. The cam doesn't shut down properly on low voltage, when the battery is in a DSMC-battery-module (i've been testing with the Dual, both slots, sidehandle attached but empty, if that matters). Automatic shutdown works fine with a battery in the sidehandle. BTW, the new warning message with counter is very nice.

I think this worked in build3, but don't nail me down on that, i don't remember exactly when i had batteries only in a module but not in the sidehandle. ;)

The new built is fantastic. It would be great if we could get a small update with the fixes to the display (when the screen just gets strange colors from switching display modes) issues, they are the only thing that makes it a bit uncomfortable to use for production.

Exciting times!
/Andreas
