  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet and Epic bag - 2013 edition

The key is building your kit with lots of quick release goodies so it can go together in under 3 minutes ;) I can put my camera together like Forest Gump assembles a rifle!

I hear ya, but sadly 3mins is no good to me in this sort of instance. I need to take camera out of bag. Power up. Start recording.

I'm on the same boat, Ben. I'll be flying around, but when I'm on the ground for my work, I would have to transport a ready-to-shoot Scarlet from various locations doing run-n-gun filming. Now I'm thinking maybe I should just pack a rig back in my checked luggage and use that for on-location.

Yeah who would have though it was so tricky?

There's been a couple of great suggestions on here though, and they have led to a couple more maybes. I shall report back.

I'm in the same situation, and still looking. I'm trying to find a store where I can test these:

kata bags / cc-197 pl

These exist in different sizes (also check the 195), and I'm pretty sure there will be the perfect fit. The quality of the kata bags is great.

i am using the lowepro magnum 400 http://products.lowepro.com/product/Magnum-400 AW,2138.htm
they have an even bigger one, the magnum 650 which will not fit in overhead....
the camera is assembled and sitting on top of the redvolt 4 pack case....the attached lens is the canon 24-105...the 17-55 fits as well, no problems....a matte box would not fit (in this configuration) ebhind the camera is plenty of room, right now there is a tascam DR 100mkII, there is enough room for redmote or some kind of V battery solution....
the second row is a second canon zoom, the amazing LCD finder and the SSDs in the RED case.....side pockets hold the AC adapter and redvolt charger....

I've also had a revelation that I should get two bags. The first should be within carry-on specs and I'll break down my essential gear and put it into that. My second bag will be a big on-location bag like the Kata, in which I'll put my clothes/toiletries in and set that up as the check-in bag. This way I can use the big bag for my on-location jobs when I land.

Exactly my thoughts.

You're catching on :)

Just an update.. I've been flying/travelling with my current bag setup.. I highly recommend it. I have a DIT station in my backpack and a fully loaded Scarlet in the shoulder bag.
