So I know this has been a popular thread for some time; seems like some guys have had some work arounds. I haven't done too deep research cause I've been on a feature so internet has been very scarce.

I have a client who wants to shoot with his Lomo's but I can't seem to get my Scarlet 5.1.35 to enable 4K Anamorphic.

I thought Red fixed this but I can only get it to work at 5K which is useless since it only does a whomping 12fps.

This is very frustrating/disappointing if I can't do 4K Anamorphic in camera.

I have TV logic on-board monitors which will de-squeeze and it might be our only work around.

Scarlet-X is so crippled compared to a Red One it blows my mind. How do you expect to use this as a B-Cam if it can't do the proper formats like an Epic can? Scarlet owners have been dealing with work around since 2012 thats two years! I guess no one at red really cares? Whats going on that make this so difficult?

Is this different on 5.1.49 I hope?

Please chime in I've been out of the Anamorphic Loop for sometime now. Was hoping it had been fixed..

There is no 4k anamorphic at all, not on Scarlet and not on EPIC. 5k/ANA isn't very useful on Scarlet, i agree to that. But Scarlet isn't crippled nor is this seriously disappointing, because it was never part of Scarlet's specs. Yes, there is some demand since it's launch, but honestly, not many people with low budgets have access to anamorphic lenses.

The demand might increase with the newer "cheapish" adapters, but it's still e niche in Scarlet-land. That being said Scarlet-X/Dragon will have proper anamorphic support. And who knows what future firmwares will bring. Just don't count on it or expect anything thats outside of the originally announced specs.

Using a 3rd-party monitor with de-squeezing is your only option and this workaround doesn't have any huge flaws. For most of us it's way more difficult to get our hands on proper anamorphic glass, you already got that! ;)

Yes, I think your "problem" is that you have these nice lenses that you want to use. Who would blame you. But, in this case, you've got the tail wagging the dog. lol

I have been looking at the Letus Anamorphic adapter and thinking of shooting the full 4K image (4096 x 2160) with the 1.3 adapter. It is, supposed;y, quite sharp and of high quality, relatively speaking. That would give me a 2.4:1 aspect ratio after chopping a few pixels off the side(s). As for monitoring, I don't really see there being unusable distortion during monitoring. (Could be wrong.)

To be sure, I am not an experienced ANA shooter but starting to think about how it can be accomplished.

OTOH, perhaps to put your lenses to use, you rent an Epic?

interesting thats not what red.com says as far as Epic 4K Ana...

Anamorphic is becoming a trend to create a distinct style and look, yes the new Letus Adapters are making is more affordable. LA will always be gear saturated so it's fairly easy to find a good set of Ana at a great price.

It's just deceiving seeing the Anamorphic option on the Advanced Menu when we jumped up to build 5.0 it made me excited when I first saw it, now that I've tried using it I've realized its a no go. Thought is was enabled...little did I know.

Yea hopefully there will be a gold firmware build for Scarlet like the Red One enabling 5K at speed and Anamorphic abilities.

I'm glad my client can deal with the work around but in some cases clients would go Epic leaving me without a 2 week rental.

When scarlet was announced and even for sometime after release it was advertised as being anamorphic as well but quietly disappeared

I could be wrong but I was fooling around the other day in my Scarlet menu and thought I did enable an anamorphic setting.

Latest beta build.

played with some epics and there is no 4K Ana feature. If you try to go into 4K Ana mode it'll spit you to the 5K Ana menu.

Specs for Scarlet Dragon state Ana Mode but who knows if it will be implemented. If it ships with Ana mode the Specs to Price ratio on Scarlet Dragon seems much better than ScarletX.

I'm still hunting down threads with good info about Production & Post Work for Scarlet Anamorphic. My Client is using 2x Lomo's so it seems like there will be some cropping on the side to accomplish 2.35 or 2.4:1 ratio. We managed to squeeze the image on a 5.6 TVlogic but couldn't decide between 4K FF or 4K HD or 3K FF or 3K HD. I should have burned some clips to play with but they're leaving tmrw to Big Bear. Also is 4:3 Aspect Ratio best for Guide Lines?

We used this Framing chart and it was a little off from the 4:3 marks but close enough tho. The .R3D Screengrab isn't the best since they didn't have diopters to get close focus but it gave post an idea aside from the 4:3 crop which is in the .RMD Meta Data.

Thanks Eddie

What stops you from shooting in 4K-FF with a custom guide to hide/darken areas outside of the "ANA" range? Then just desqueeze the data in post and crop the sides accordingly. RCX can automatically crop your shots according to the guides...
Yes - you won't be able to monitor ANA desqueezed (unless your monitor supports that function), but that is not a major compromise...
