  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet 2/3" Fixed @ CES

i compleatly agree

BTW, I've thought about this for a bit and wanted to share it with you guys to see what you thought.

I want to be the first to nominate that Joseph Hutson be a special beta tester for the Scarlet. I think he's done an amazing job here on the forums and has shown remarkable professionalism towards users of all levels. In addition, he has an amazing eagerness to encourage the movement of RED into young filmmakers toolkit and seems extremely knowledgeable in all things RED.

I think he does a great job representing the future of the industry and I can't think of anyone else I'd like to see get it early and show us how he's gonna use it.

Just a thought...

(fyi, I've never met Joseph and I have no personal interest in seeing him get his hands on a Scarlet, it's just an idea and a great PR move)

Thanks man. Those are some of the kindest words anybody have said to me. I appreciate it.

I know I post a lot on here, and sometimes I wonder if I should just quit altogether since I don't want to be annoying to people. It's just that if I ever set myself to doing something, I usually go all out and sometimes overboard with it. So hearing from people like you really encourages me to stay involved here on the forum...

Keep it up Joseph, many of yours posts were very helpful to me. I'm only 19 and managed to get ahold of my Red MX this last week. I'm having a blast shooting on it. I've been doing film work since I was 12, and have been very heavy into Post-Production (Final Cut Pro, Nuke, Shake, Scratch) working in HD has been great however looking back after just two days on my Red, HD is a painful story.

That said I've learned all I know from those around me, thanks to the Internet I am able to reach out and acquire knowledge and skills that I couldn't otherwise have had (I'm from the middle of nowhere Idaho) It's people like you that have helped me learn and achieve what I set out to do.

Sad that I bought a Red when this stuff is coming out (Honestly wouldn't have been able to afford Epic, and especially knowing that Red Batteries last 4 hours on it instead of the measly 50 minutes on my Red MX)

To Everyone at Red....Thanks for all your hard work your enabling young filmmakers like me on a budget who are starting new production companies to get affordable Cinema gear...and not just affordable but the best in the industry!

doubt there is shortage of beta testers / dreamers for the scarlet.

feel more and more anxious & excited for RED with each passing day, and so have doubled my weekly lottery ticket purchase.

EpicX also with larger screen??

EpicX also with larger screen??

We are no longer making the 2.8" touchscreen.. it was impossible for any normal sized person to use.

So EpicX will ship with the larger touch screen, good, thank you, didn't want the small screen..way too small.

Unless I'm mistaken, Epic-X was never going to ship with the 2.8-inch -- or any other -- LCD as default. The only kit announced so far has been for the fixed Scarlet.

IIRC Stage 2 was always slated to have the 5 inch and stage 3 was to get the 2.8. Remember Epic-X is the special version package deal. Epic is the body only for everything after Epic-X is delivered. Epic-S is the new Epic light version (sort of an upgrade of Scarlet 35, now in the same Epic form factor).

Here's the clarification from 5/23/2010 when stage 2 deposits had to be made:

STAGE 2: Keep your RED ONE and get EPIC-X Stage 2 package ( RESERVATIONS CLOSED - Awaiting completion of Stage 1 )

Cameras only eligible if invoiced by RED or having completed the official RED ownership transfer process on or before October 29, 2009.
Keep your RED ONE and serial number is executed. "Executed" means not eligible for any other trade-in offers/credits.
Cameras with voided warranties are not eligible for ANY trade-in offers/credits.

Reservation period over. Payment for Stage 2 deposits due by June 1, 2010. Deposit is $5000 per camera executed for Stage 2.
Cost is $28,000 less $8500 to keep your RED ONE. Net price of $19,500 and comes with:
1x S35 MYSTERIUM-X brain with PL mount,
1x 5" LCD,
1x REDMOTE,
1x Side CF Module,
1x Module Adaptor,
1x Base I/O Module,
1x Pro Battery Module,
2x REDVOLT standard batteries, and
1x travel charger. NOTE: Upgrades available for select monitoring options and modules. i.e 1x Base I/O Module can be upgraded to PRO I/O Module by paying price difference. Details as we get closer.
RED ONE M-X Upgrade price of $4500 (normally $5750).
You must take delivery within 30 days from notification that your order is ready for delivery. Notification order based on R1 Delivery date

STAGE 3: Trade-in your RED ONE and get EPIC-X Stage 3 package ( NEW R1 ELIGIBILITY CLOSED )

Cameras only eligible if invoiced by RED or having completed the official RED ownership transfer process on or before October 29, 2009.
Trade-in your RED ONE and serial number is executed. "Executed" means not eligible for any other trade-in offers/credits.

Sorry. I meant the general release of Epic-X. While you're right that Epic-X was originally the package deal, it seems that with the announcement of Epic-M and Epic-S, the "X" is now officially part of the name of the mass-produced (i.e., nonmachined) high-end brain.

I get it now - that's a Scarlet footage tease: Remember the doggie with the bone and the RED logo in the background? That was the first Scarlet footage, and after that only came the lizard. Or did I forget something?

Bring on the Bones then...
