  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet 2/3" Fixed @ CES

I think some of that was due to the live broadcast, and if it was anything like the day before, very demanding twitter users wanting to see the entire show instantly.

Thanks, David. So I basically need a 1/8" TRS to XLR converter, plug this converter into one of the two Scarlet 1/8" input jacks, then connect the male XLR mic cable connection into the converter. Do I have this correct? Sorry for the questions.

For an on camera mic I would just make the cable to length and plug the mic directly in. I'm sure someone will make a little XLR adapter box that can clamp to a rail or mount on the body somewhere eventually too.

Maybe this has been answered, but can you use the Bomb EVF as well as the 5" monitor at the same time on the Scarlet 8x Fixed?

I don't even think the EPIC has two EVF/LCD ports on the brain or side module. Does the I/O have another EVF or LCD port?

Other wise it's EVF/LCD for op, HDMI for AC. HDSDI on Epic.

How about Jacek's wireless HDMI solution? That should work up to 100 feet.

Nothing about that Rig is actually "jacek's" except the power cable.

It's an Asus Wicast ew2000. It won't transmit 100' through any real walls.

If you are looking for longer range transmission in the same price point - the Brite-View AirsyncHD is your best FCC approved choice at this time.

If the Antenna has been modified, and is being sold as a modified Device don't be surprised if you get a visit from the FCC.

Does this look at all familiar to you?

In the interest of full disclosure - I have been leading a consortium on the advancement of this technology in our industry since before July 2010.

To see a competitor calling it "his product" and in my eyes "doing it wrong" is diametrically opposed to my philosophy as an artist and technician.

Scarlet or EPIC brains do not include an LCD / EVF port, but the Side CF / Side SSD module does, as does the Base I/O and PRO I/O module.

So with an I/O module and Side CF or SSD module a Scarlet could drive both a Bomb EVF and the LCD.

Of course you always have the HDMI output available on the Brian too...

Here should be a good place to ask.

What's the latest information regarding what comes bundled with the fixed len's scarlet? Obviously you get the brain and the lens, but what else do we get? That 5" LCD on the CES scarlet doesn't come with it by any chance does it :-)

Has it been finalised yet?

Sound advice thanks. I'll take this to mean you are a while away from release so we should go with something else. Appreciate the heads up.

Ash - Please, do us all, and yourself, a HUGE favor, and buy something else - anything your heart desires. We all wish you the best with it, I am sure. May you win an academy award with whatever you choose!!!

FWIW...

From the sound of it, he really would like to have a Scarlet. Also, I could care less what camera he chose...so it wouldn't be a favor to me if he went out and bought an AF100.

I'd actually like for Ash to shoot with whatever he would like to right now, and then contribute to the RED community if and when he finds the Scarlet to meet his need.

Until then, maybe we can all be patient and not try to fight about the very thing that has brought us together as one... ;)

Joseph - always the diplomat! And... between you and me *whispers*, I really could care less what he chooses to shoot with either. :-)

I think RED wants to sell the 8x Fixed just like it shows up right now:

Body with CF module, 5" LCD, Hand grip and Redmote.

That would be a really attractive package. Plus, it would be true to the idea that you are fully functional out of the box. By "fully functional" I mean you get what most people are realistically going to need.

I think RED's problem is price. We all know it has been hiked already—for good reason—but still. I am pretty sure RED is reluctant to make it any more expensive. I think the dream target for RED is now $5995, but I'm not sure they can cram the Redmote in there.

If they can sell the CES-version at sub 6000, I think most people would consider that a killer deal. Most likely I see them removing the Redmote, leaving the LCD and selling it for $5995, or as cheap as they can.

Another problem is that if they DO keep the Redmote and keep the price $6000 it would make their other rigs almost seem expensive (strictly comparing RED products ofcourse).

The CES-version of 8x Fixed Scarlet is a very, very, very… hmm, it is a crazy offer in every meaning of the word.

But then again, Jim probably suffers from "insanity light" :smile5:

I'm curious, because I get very tempted to pull up my wallet and buy Scarlet Fixed, of course. I have since 2007 followed the Scarlet's development but I am also a bit worried about buying the fixed camera. Let's say about two years so I need to make a promotional film or similar and want to use a 50mm macro lens, maybe a nikon. Here's the problem, I'm stuck with the fixed lens! When the camera is so good, why not buy the interchangeable Scarlet, when I can buy an adapter for Nikon, Canon etc and have a stock of different lenses to use with scarlet. Explain to me the advantage of Scarlet fixed?

Kindest regards
Sebastian

Explain to me the advantage of Scarlet fixed?

Price, of course.

We haven't seen any final packages, but it is my understanding that the 8x Fixed will be especially attractive price wise. It is much more locked in, but the lens does cover a nice range of 28-210+ (don't remember the exact tele focal).

And for me personally, I'm convinced the Fixed will retain a very good resale value, should it ever come to that. If RED delivers on its promise, it will take much longer for the Fixed Scarlet to become obsolete than most other camera bodies.

Sure...and at different resolutions and frame rates if you desire.

Good

... and of course with dfferent display - LUTs... ?

Say I want to have RedlogFilm, and the director wants Redgamma2...

Just as a totally random example...

One advantage I'm hoping that will come from the fixed, is a lens optimised for the chip and performance in a package price that would probably cost considerably more if using equivalent focal length lenses ( say S16 ).
