  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Samyang Cinema kit missing a key lens...

Doug was making a backhanded slap regarding my experience with lenses rather than the gear alone.

I didn't refer to your experience with lenses, but rather quite literally your experience with tacks. I'm not a poet- I don't write in metaphor.

I'll just post these stills I took and people can make up their own minds. This is an apples to apples, unscientific, heuristic test using my lenses. It's not gospel, so go out and try these for yourself before passing judgment.

It's been said before, but the 85mm is the gem of the line, 24 is the softest, and the 35 is somewhere in between.

Ivan is right when he says he would put these up against L series. IMO, this is the set to buy as far as price/performance/mechanics in a budget line of glass.

Yep, Samyang, Rokinon, Bower, Walimex – all the same.

Ok we all know what these lenses are, and aren't. But what's up with these kit setups? There's not a single kit setup I like.

They are offering the 16 only in one Kit and it's not the "big" one (kit 4)
Is the 14 so much better than the 16? I thought it was the other way round. (Already the aperture difference would make me favor the 16mm)
But maybe I'm only misinformed. Never tested either of the two.

But for me the kit to have would be 16/ 24/ 35/ (50)/ 85

I love the 8mm and I would include that in some kit, too but it's a speciality lens, so not needed in a standard kit. I'd set it up with the big kit - maybe even including the 14 and have a full set. Seems like weird choices to me.

What do you guys think?

I have the same beefs as everyone else but the lenses do the job (I have 24/35/85 Rokinon Cine).
However my biggest beef is the 24/85mm.
The focus ring is too far back for my Cinevate Durus and RED 19mm studio setup.
I just barely catch the teeth by a hair.
It works but I know itll get wonky eventually.
Wish I can tear these apart somehow and push em forward.

@Ivan

"soft as shit" ain't the best phrase to start with either....compared to what? I'm comparing them all to my nikkors right now (I own both sets) and the 24 is great!

The 24mm f2 AIS Nikkor or the 24m f1.4 G? The AIS is horrible. I, too, find the 24mm Rokinon to be the weakest of the bunch.
