I’ve doing a bunch of research but can’t find any real examples of S16 lenses in Helium. The Zeiss Superspeed S16 Lenses cover 4K. I think it would be fun shooting with them. Anyone use S16 glass at all?

I'll be very interested as well to see a test, shot a lot on Dragon@2.5K and super16 zoom, but I'm afraid that super16 lenses will not resolve 4K resolution, maybe the ARRI ultra 16 lenses or just using a wide angle super35 zoom or prime? like a set of Master primes 12, 16, 25, 35 & 50?

Hey Oron! Hope everything is good! ;)

I think that many 16mm lenses resolve 4k just fine, maybe not wide open (like most 35mm counterpart which you have to close down a bit to get to crispy 4K resolving)...but once closed to 2.8 or so I think the res would be fine.

Of course you'd be magnifying noise and grain structure so it will be quite gritty if not in full daylight...

+1 on anyone out there that has a helium or dragon for that matter with a couple S16 lenses and can do a couple R3d's?

I no longer have a Helium, but I can confirm some S16 glass works nicely on it. Older Zeiss and Illumina stuff is what I saw. Don't know if all the wides cover or anything like that, but it's a "thing" that you can explore!

these are S16lenses on Dragon. 2.5K with Meteor 17-69mm T2.2 PL mounted. Camera testing stuff for the film up above.

The 9.5mm does not cover 4K, but the 12mm and up do (at least the set we tested).

Nick is absolutely correct. The 9.5mm S16 Zeiss Superspeed vignettes a bit in the corners (usable with a slight push-in) and the 12mm, 16mm and 25mm completely cover 4K on Helium. I have a lovely set of these for sale if anyone is interested.
