Wanted to let everybody know we are on day 4 of a 25 day shoot for the sequel to Donny Darko, s.Darko. We're filming in beautiful Utah.

Our DP is Marvin Rush, who is very comfortable with digital cinematography and the results are stunning. I hope to get permission to post some shots shortly.

Awesome! Is Richard Kelly involved with this project in any way? How many cameras are you guys rolling?

OMFG ! That's totally great.

Honestly, I don't think that DD needs a sequel, and not having R. Kelly in the project is weird but hey, I'm happy that you're using RED.

Only recently I watched the first one and I'm obsessed with it.

I love it!

Please make a good sequel. :)

It is a mostly one camera shoot. I think it's going to be a great movie, and it looks amazing!

Hey Jeremy, sounds like fun! There aren't any little green men in this one are there? ;)
Cheers from Mty Mexico and saludos to Mike. Hope all is well.

Awesome. Donnie Darko is one of my favorite movies. And since I graduated high school in '88, it made it that much more cool for me.

But I'm wondering - how in the world do you do a sequel to that movie? : )

You follow the younger sister around.. 10 years later

Just to let you all know Richard and I have had nothing to do with this movie. We just got finished shooting "The Box" starring Cameron Diaz and two Genesis cameras. Had a wonderful time with Richard, Cameron and the Genesis.
This will be the third movie I have done with Richard. You should look at "Southland Tales." This is truly an amazing piece of absurdist movie making. It is so prescient regarding the state of the US and our elections. Just let it be an experience. Don't be too literal when you watch it.
We shot Darko in 27 days. So they are stiffing you guys 2 days worth. If you do see Southland, we shot that one in only 30 days.
Say hi to Marvin for me. Ask him if he called in the job.

Thank god they let Kelly do another movie after the drubbing Southland Tales got.

Steven, great to see you on the boards. I was a huge fan of Southland Tales. Saw it in NYC a few months ago. I agree with you about going in with an open mind. I saw the movie with a few people who were expecting something else & came out disappointed. I thought it was interesting that you shot it a few years ago, portraying 2008, and then having the movie delay its traction until the the time it was foretelling.

When is THE BOX due out?

Have you worked with the Red yet?

Steven welcome, enjoy your work man...appreciate any updates in regards to THE BOX.

Excited to hear about Donnie Darko RED sequel, good luck with that shoot and any updates will be much appreciated...

Best

Clayton

OMG, they are here... :)

Now if only S.Soderbergh could jump in too and say "Hi, it was an artistic decision" :). Lol.

...Or just "Hi".

Umm, nevermind.

Donnie Darko is a great movie.

I heard Steven Poster and Dave Stump discuss the Red One on a cinematography panel at NAB, and Steven was less than enthusiastic. There was a guy in the audience that asked his view on Red. Steven asked the guy if he had ordered one. When the guy said yes, Steven smiled and tried to pass off the mic to Dave as if to avoid being the bearer of bad news. But then he ended up saying a bit. If I may paraphrase, he felt it wasn't production ready, that it was simply too unreliable and quirky to entrust with a production that is worth tens of g's per day. I don't believe he addressed the image quality.

You resurrect the MANIPULATED DEAD. Obviously.

Steven, let me just say personally that I LOVE both Donnie Darko and Southland Tales. Both are amazingly fresh, inventive films that try to do something different.

The mega-zeppelin stuff at the end of Southland Tales is amazing with regard to the visuals and atmosphere and the way the story threads were woven together. Great stuff!

Cheers,

Paul

Just wanted to say I got to be on set for the shooting of Southland Tales. Kinda random, but it was my first movie set. It was only for a few hours, but it was still cool none the less.
