So far I haven't gotten permission to post any images yet, but let me just say that in the right hands, with somebody who's very comfortable with digital cinema, someone who understands the limitations and strengths, Red imagery is stunning. (I know I'm being repetitive, I just wish I could show you all).
Every lunch break and after we wrap each day, the producers and DP gather around my 30" monitor and review the footage in RedCine, the room is always filled with oohs and ahhs all around. I give much of the credit to the DP, but the camera is certainly playing its part.
That's not to say things have been perfect, we've had some camera bugs and issues show up at very inconvenient times, but we've worked through them.
For the record, the biggest problem we've had has been the camera shutting down unexpectedly. Turned out we had two different problems that were causing the same thing. First, the battery cradle in my camera has become loose and a good bump, like putting the camera on the rig, or sometimes just clicking a new lens into place, would cause the camera to loose power.
The second cause of unexpected shutdown was the lens motors. They were being powered off the D-tap on the cradle, and using the same battery as the camera. When we were calibrating the position of the gears, sometimes the motors would spin the lens to its limit and it would stop hard, this would cause a spike in power for the motor, which would in turn starve the camera for power and boom the camera would shutdown.
Once we figured out the cause of both issues, they were easy to resolve and we've gone forward with fewer hitches. I will say that the current menu system is much to cumbersome under pressure and needs some serious re-thinking.

Sorry if this sound brash but WHY.
D.Darko is just something pure that should not be touched .
If Richard has nothing to do with it doesnt that say something for s.Darko?
Somethings are best left alone.
Sorry but i have no idea how a good story can even come of this .
Do i dare say s.Darko will have Frank in it or the wormholes?
I just cant see getting behind this just like if they do a Goonies 2.

"absurdist movie making" <-- Perfect description of southland
prescient state of the US and our elections? I'd say current :bleh:. There might not be visible 50 bmg sniper's rifle towers on the beach but the rest is pretty damn close to reality

Hi Steven,
Great to see you here. It was such a pleasure working with you on Southland Tales. I will always remember those days quite fondly. What a crazy amount of work to squeeze into 30 days - and I loved the results. A great dada-ist political statement. And to shoot all over Los Angeles for Los Angeles was great as well.
I've been shooting on the RED for quite some time now as I more and more transition from Video Coordinating to Directing. My partner, Chris Hill has 2 Cameras with EVFs and various accessories.
Again, working with you was an honor. I one day hope to have a project that might peak your interest.
If you are interested in doing some RED tests, email me, and we can meet up sometime with our Cameras.

why is this in the footage section?
The casting and acting in Southland Tales was unbearable. It was shot well. Richard Kelly should be as far away from DD2 as possible, his director's cut of DD ruins the mystery of the film. In its ambiguity, DD shines. My .02, but what do i know — i was here looking for footage!

No offense, but after reading the plot synopsis on imdb, it looks like another teen roadtrip movie. Hopefully it's just imdb giving crappy plot synopsis'. I remember seeing a Boondocks Saints trailer on there and it made the movie look like crap, but it's one of my favorite movies. So I guess we'll see.

This is embarrasing to admit, but I just saw Donnie Darko for the first time. I can't imagine a sequel would be nearly as good. This film has quickly jumped onto my favorite films of all time list. Well shot by Steven Poster. I would see the sequel to see what they did with the Red One but otherwise not expecting much.
