  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RRENCODE vs. H.265 (HEVC)

Thanks for that Phil, so RREncode is in fact a codec used in the encoding software to convert files? I have never seen RREncode anywhere prior to this thread and thought it was just a typo and was intended to mean .REDcode.

Close.

RREncode is a plugin which works within RedCine-X Pro; .RED is the codec. It's currently the only way to create .RED files, but that will change once developers get their hands on it. This is all brand new and happening right this second.

When you purchase a REDRAY player you receive one RREncode license.

If you want additional licenses or work for a post house that may need several licenses the RREncoder can be purchased separately for a very affordable $20 USD.

Some people use RAW as a synonym for uncompressed, these days that is more misleading than accurate.

Most people now use RAW to describe a data set that includes both color and luminance information from the sensor and A/D conversion process (typically from a Bayer CFA) that is not yet decoded into an RGB or YUV image for viewing. The RAW "developer" applies a de-Bayering algorithm to interpret the RAW data to create a viewable image - in RED world that's RedCineX-Pro plus 3rd parties using the RED SDK.

Is H.265 being used in any programs yet? Meaning, can I see some examples of it.

Yes, HM on TappEncoder/Decoder. Very promising so far. If all goes well, we should have excellent quality Ultra HD content at 1.5 MB/s playable on smartphones by mid-2014.
