  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RPPs

So maybe you should stick to still work. ;)

Or just get really good at doing it without the bloat. If you already have a head for going it alone on stills shoots, you can certainly apply that knowledge to motion capture. Planning is everything.

Lee you will soon learn that you will need all these people around you to do the job.You are very naive to film making if you think you can go it alone.

Understatement of the year.

It's like the 4' of steel track costing $500 that one could make with about $25 in material from the local home store and an arc welder. The gougers have had their strangle grip on this business pretty good probably forever.

No, it has to do with supply and demand. There is only so much demand (5000 RED owners still isn't THAT much demand in the big scheme of things) and if companies don't charge a certain price then they won't stay in business. Not to mention that many products last forever (grip gear, lights, tripods, etc) and so repeat business can take a while. Now, products like gel and gaffers tape baffles me to why they are so costly considering how productions go through them like crazy every day.

And now back on subject...when are we going to hear about shipping dates for what serial numbers?

Matthew

Calm down guys I'm not saying I could shoot a movie literally alone, but I'm pretty confident it can be done with less than the number of people who work on the set of a typical studio picture.

Yes, Lee, you could shoot a movie with less people. But what kind of movie? One for theatrical release on 3,000 screens? Or a little art house release? Direct to DVD? For your family and close friends?

There are economies of scale to every project. You want the Dark Knight? You are going to need a gigantic crew of top professionals at top rates. And yes, union members. You want "Sunshine Cleaning"? You can probably trim your crew needs way down. But you've still got union players. SAG. DGA. WGA. IA. The unions have economies of scale for these kinds of pictures as well. Union is not a dirty word. Trust me. I've worked in Hollywood for close to 30 years. Without unions, studios would eat us alive.

You want home movies. You can go it alone.

And yes, we need to get back on subject. Sorry about my vent.

OK, showing my ignorance here, but I'm assuming the metric set is the one to get for a UK market? I've only had occasion to use hired in cine lenses once in Spain and they had both metric and imperial markings! Can any UK cine pros fill me in? Thanks!

Thank you Joel.
The ignorance that sometimes surfaces on these boards slays me every time.
Look, listen, and learn before you bash people and a business that you obviously know little about.
A word about clip-on vs. swing away MBs... I would say use whatever you are comfortable with and can be fast and efficient with. I own both types in various sizes but always seem to come back to the clip ons... lower profile and weight, and the act of removing and remounting them is no more time consuming that swinging on and off. In my experience, that is...
Cheers,
Harry

Hi,

Most people will prefer feet & inches, one of the best 1st AC's in Switzerland trained in London she always wants imperial & will add imperial marks if she has a lens in meters!

That's interesting. I wonder if it's a generational thing in the UK too. I'm of a certain age where I visualise some things in metric and some in imperial! Height in feet and inches, short length in centimetres and millimetres, distances in miles, weight in stones and pounds but volumes in litres, except beer!

Any way to find out how long our wait will be for these suckers?

Also deposit paid, shouldn't we at least get some bitchen product shots by now?

Making a few last minute tweaks to make sure we clear 435 ARRI mounts. Mark is the only one that has a set out in the wild ( His is a pre-production set like the ones we showed at NAB )

SAY WHA!!!?! Hmm, thought these were ready to go.

Is the problem the clearance on the exterior of the camera (eyepiece, mirror shroud) or the interior?
