What would you expect a set of RPP's to rent at (day rate, week rate)

assuming you had them to rent that is....

Today,
$200/day $600/week $1,800/month

6-9 months from now when everyone owns a set,

$125/day $400/week $1,000/month

Just my guess based on Red One rentals and the like

It will probably be like $250 a day but that won't last long. With the Red rental rate bottoming out at $500 in LA. I don't see RPPs being over $200 a day in this city after EVERYONE has a set. All I'm saying. Just watch. My bet is that most people will bundle their RPP set with their Red Ones as I do with my PL set.

$400 a day for a an 18-85mm five lens set while their rare.
$300-$350 when it settles down.
At least for real work and budgets, you can always find deals if you look hard enough but I think these will be common card rates.
I don't know about you but $500 a day for a R1 body maybe but not a package, unless it's very minimal.

I think rick's guesstimates are pretty much inline with where it should fall.

There's no reason for it to be more than the other lens options and if based off of original price and availability. $200-$250 a day for a set of 5 is about right. In a non-competitive market Zeiss super speeds are around $320 for argument's sake. In a metropolitan area that price can drop quickly.

3 day week rates - 8 day month - just like most camera houses quote

I don't think hype will play as big a role as it did with the camera itself. The camera is great, but lots of DPs prefer certain glass and when the budget is there they'll get to make that decision.

Evin, do you think they really will rent out for more than your Zeiss T2.1 set? Maybe at OTTO. I really can't see them going out the door for $350/day after it settles down. At least in Los Angeles / NYC - It's brutal out here !! haha

I can get more for a package rental but lately I have been hearing that $500/day number tossed around a lot. If you're fortunate to get more, more power to you. Luckily most of my income does not come from renting. :head_explode:

A SuperSpeed is $75/day, so a set of five is $350. Assuming that you would rent them for the same price (no aspersions or other connotations here, just a mathematical assumption), then it would be $1050/week (3-day), $3500/month (10-day) and a theoretical ROI of 57 rental days.

Of course that's all theoretical and non-discounted book rate. In reality it would likely take at least 18 months minimum to pay them off. And expect to have to do some service along the way (not RED's fault; your client's), so that payment time will likely extend some more. It is rare to get more than 5 days rental out of any item due to scheduling overlaps and other issues even when it is the most popular item on the shelf.

My (7 lens) T2.1 set does rent for $350 a day, Plus $75 for the 12mm.
But it's usually bundled with the camera, and like you my primary income is shooting, but the rentals help.

exactly...

I was recently offered $500 to rent my package for 2 days AND DP a SnoopDog video... If this is the current state of things, then I expect the RPP's to be free with any camera rental. What? You don't have a set? Okay, then I'll rent your camera for $100/day...

probably right

i guess it depends WHO you are renting to mainly. for someone who is looking for a shooter with their own camera, i guess these demands will be made. for a client who is used to (and enjoys) renting from a rental house, they will pay a fair rate (most of the time).....

500 a day must be from mom and pop owners that dont have backup bodies lenses etc... call keslow and see what a package goes for...

dont know

i know two postproduction companys giving away reds for free if you do the post there.

and two greenscreenstudios doing the same if you rent them

in berlin there are 5-6 "big" rental houses.

they are fighting for a feature with 75-85 % discounts.

so a couple of rpp`s for free wouldnt change much.

its a good time to produce :)

actually there is indycine renting out a red package for 86 € a day well equipped.

its the loss leader, and thats totally ok with me.

i have a lot of fun shooting with my red

there ya go. Mitch is in an excellent position to make these assumptions, so Id listen to him.
