  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rokinon Cine Primes on EPIC, first Impressions

Do you own the 14? I need more stops than 2.8! ...Sometimes budgets and projects just put you in positions you're not prepared for. I'd rather open up to 1.5 than raise ISO 2 stops or break the 180 degree angle...maybe dragon will change my opinion.

any way let me know how the 14 works for you if you own it.
I do and I love it. It's incredibly sharp.

However, you're right about it being slow. When trying to match it to the rest of these, it's tough. That's why the 16mm looks great to me. As a Scarlet shooter (and no real plans to upgrade to an Epic any time soon), the APS-C doesn't concern me. But I'd like a Cine version. I had a 35mm Rokinon NOT CINE and used a Bartech wireless FF with a zipgear on it. The torque ripped the entire focus ring off the lens. Whoops!

But yeah, the 14mm is a great great lens for the price. At 4K, it's the perfect "POV" lens.

I did this series of spots with it:

Yes great move...buy $30,000 body and stick $500 #^% on it.
i would recommend checking the rokinons out....i have the 35 and 85 and honestly did not expect too much....i am honestly surprised by the optical quality and actually also by the mechanical quality.....both are sharper then the canon L (35 and 85) wide open, CA is very well controlled, from 2.8 on they can hold their own against any lens....very nice character as well.....
yes, there are "better" (whatevr that means) lenses out there...i generally really like leica and schneider glass....but compared to any canon glass (cine or not) these definitely hold their own...
i would not be surprised if one might have to go through a couple of copies to get a good one, i am very happy with the ones i got....will get the 24 as well but of course that isn't that great of a deal compared to the others...the 85 for 320$ is an insane deal....

Anyone tried out the 16mm in 5k yet? I know it's an APS-C lens but maybe it just covers.

IMO I reckon the 14mm is the runt of the litter. I had the still version it had a fixed sunhood so no mattebox docking and the witness marks on lens barrel were no where near what the actual subject to lens distance was on the ground. Also when it comes down to 14mm F2.8 Samyang or the 16 -11mm F2.8 Tokina no contest. So I got rid of my 14mm.

Has any of this changed with Cine version?

My colleague has the 35 and 85 Rokinon Cine lenses. He really wants a better 50 that the Canon 1.4 ef, I bet he will LOVE the Rokinon 50mm when it lands. But they need to hurry up.

For me, I am loving my Contax set, but if I didn't have them, and Rokinon had their 50, that's probably the way I would go.

I'd say so, mine seems quite on the spot, I try n get some shots done on the 14mm this weekend.

+1. What's this guys deal?

There is always one in the bunch.

Just stating facts that Im enjoying my Scarlet with a set or Rokinon Cines.

Sure Id love a stash of RPs and Schneiders but I would also like to eat daily :)

This thread isn't for Lens snobs . As Duclos states the Samyangs are up there with CP2's.

Yes we know they're not Zeiss but then again they will cover Dragon sensors (both Epic & Scarlet) unlike a lot of Zeiss glass & for that matter a lot of other cine glass as well. With Dragon what worked in the past, glass wise mightn't work so well in the future, irrespective of how much money was paid.

P.S Dominik yep some pics from the Cine 14mm would be nice .....be even nicer with the same shot done on Tokina 11- 16mm at the same time for comparison ; ) !

Lol!!!! Oh well I'm sorry I spent all my lens money on dragon. Still getting work with or without great lenses.

(and spent Dragon money on $15k of jewelry, and spent jewelry money on lawyers and court fees and spent lawyer and court fee money on a house. And spent my house money on my girl friend. Some of us just have priorities listed a little differently.)

I hate that POS. Honestly I feel the f1.8 Canon is better than that overpriced garbage.

any news on the Rokinon 50mm? I haven't seen anything lately.

That's some cool stuff. May I ask how you obtained some of those shots? Custom helmet cam? Steadicams? I'd also like to see the lens without the drunk effect lol.

Two were handheld (car crash and getting in the car). The wake up was on a Steadicam and the interrogation was on a loose tripod with the actor contorting his body around it :)

without the drunk effect it's not nearly as cool lol
