ROCKETCINE-X Bugs, Comments, Help...

I installed the new RED Rocket driver, next the firmware, then the ROCKETcine-X on my Nehalem 8-core MacPro with Snow Leopard and everything went fine. Nice to be able to edit the Render settings. Now we can burn the timecode and stuff. But the layout for the Batch/output changed with the addition of AV/Sync window and that threw off the beta version of Flight Director. But I'm sure Hans can fix it right away.

I just installed the new redcine - X and rocket -X and it tells me i need new firmware and driver, but they weren't in the download? do other people have this or am i just being dumb?

Robert,

The driver and the firmware (they are in the Rocket Installer as a set) are separate download from the ROCKETcine-X application.

Gawd, I informed Hans about the new ROCKETcine-X and the issue, then few hours later, he's sending me the updated version. I'm in the middle of moving home, but when I'm finished moving, I'll give a test and let everyone know.

must be both DVI connectors connected to a screen? I dont get a signal out of them....

am i doin somethin wrong ?

thx
rainer

Rainer,

Can you elaborate more of what you are doing?

my clips export without audio. sometimes rocketcine decides to put audio in at random. how do i get back to exporting clips with audio? i open up the old rocketcine and i get all kinds of errors i didnt used to get, is it because im using the newest firmware and drivers but with the older 661 build of rocketcine? when will the audio issue be resolved in rocketcine? i need to export clips with audio, or at least roll back to how i used to do it with rocketcine..

I'm connecting one of the dual DVI connectors coming in the package. Then I take one of the DVI outputs (1) and connect it to a display. Nothing happens. Tried it on both connectors on the dualcable and on both outputs of the card. Have to connect both DVI connectors of the dual cable to the same display that it is working. I could do it with my EIZO CG243w. It has dual DVI. But it should work with one also in my opinion.
The other thing is that the progressive signal which I see coming out of my graphics card (GT8800) has so vertical strikes specially at panning. I saw this also at Redcine, I think the displays are not set right.... its hard to describe... you should see it.
But my biggest problem at the moment is to get a signal from the rocket DVI connectors to a display....

I've seen a solution with connecting 4 LCD panels to each output of RR to display 4K altogether, so I would imagine you would be able to get 1/4 of the picture when you connect one of the DIV. I use HDSDI all the time so never tried the DVI connection out of RR. I should give a try with the displays that I have (TVLogic XVM245W, HP DreamColors).

Very frustrated as now my Rocket seems to be useless/broken

Zak, I'd imagine the audio error would be software, not faulty RR, but you should get in touch with Deanan to solve the hardware related issue.

I have the latest of RR's driver, firmware, ROCKETcine-X, REDCINE-X, REDCINE and all seem working well on pictures (not checking the audio since most of my clips don't have audio recorded).

Are you sure you have the latest REDAlert! and REDCINE installed?

zak try to flash the card again....

probably there went something wrong.... no audio at all here on exports....

i dont have a hd-sdi monitor on my own... so a working dvi would be great.... so i need a full screen playback at least with one dvi connector....

........

Nice improvements overall, thanks Deanan and team. But I'm disappointed it still won't write files larger than 2GB to a AFP server, which is what our whole workflow is based on. I still have to transcode to a local drive then copy over to the server, and that got tiresome some time now.

so Rainer, you are telling me that you cant get audio either?

Quick Q about da Rocket.

the new BWF (broadcast wave file If I am correct). Will this function allow automatic syncing of BWF files to r3d's and then playout?

I had taken for granted all the time that the rocket is an HD-SDI output card, is it not?

thank you

Zak yes no audio in exported files.....

audiotrack is there but no signal in.....

playback in rocketcine plays audio

Email me the log files anytime you're seeing a problem.
Log files reside in userdir/Library/Application Support/RED/(Rocketcine or Redcine)/Logs.

No audio probably means it can't close the quicktime which is likely something specific to your machine we need to hunt down.

The case is still open with apple but getting it resolved is not trivial.
There are multiple ways to write quicktime files and they each have different requirements and limitations, not to mention a whole bunch of undocumented solutions that often even the apple guys don't know about (engineers moving on...).

We'd like it fixed also.

It can playout currently but out the HD-SDI yet.
HDSDI audio/timecode is near completion in the firmware.

Deanan, when I export quicktimes with my RR, they look quite washed out when I am viewing them in quicktime. This is true for any quicktime export settings, while TIFF sequences for example export fine. The effect is pretty similar to going from 2.2 gamma to 1.8 gamma, except more pronounced.

I'm using OS X 10.5.8, have all the latest updates installed and I'm using rocketcine-x, though the same issue is present with redcine-x as well.

Thanks a bundle for this latest update though. The 'tearing' on motion is drastically reduced, and once this quicktime export thing is resolved I can finally use the card to transcode dailies. The dailies editor won't touch transcodes unless timecode/framecount is burned in, so that's an awesome feature to see.

Dave

Just a thank you note - just upgraded to the new build and it looks (and sounds!) great - this is so exciting. I haven't tested the whole thing out, but I'm watching and listening to skateboarding that I shot yesterday in 4.5K at 11mm...fantastic. The 4.5K support is great. It's like having a whole new camera with this super-wide...

I love the direction that the new apps are heading...thank you thank you, for all your hard work and visionary thinking. This has come a long way since day one...and I'm betting you all are going to add even more cool functionality...

...can I get notation?
