  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rocket support for Color - please help us test

Has anyone noticed the brightness shift in playing back with RR in Apple Color? During the playback it gets darker and when you stop, it gets lifted.

Is there a new version of this plugin on the way that has the new color science redcolor2 and redgamma2? Would love to use these in color.

Many thanks for all your hard work developing this plugin. My color workstation has never been faster and more productive than with this great plugin!

I've got a new Rocket card and am trying to have it output HD-SDI from Color to a Panasonic monitor. The card is definitely working with Color (acceleration) but doesn't seem to be outputting a video signal.

When I go to the "Video Output:" menu on the User Preferences tab I find a number of grayed-out options (Digital Cinema Desktop, assorted Firewire options) but nothing available and nothing about a monitor on the HD-SDI spigot.

Any ideas?

Apple Color does not support RR output. RR only provide metadata debayering. So, R3D is processed with RR, sent to other Apple Color's other room with GPU, then display it on the desktop "OR", sent to video I/O like Matrox MXO2 and Blackmagicdesign Decklink HD. In case of displaying on the desktop, that provides maximum frame rate within it's capability, then when you select to display through, say Decklink HD's HDSDI, then the frame rate drops siginificantly because debayered data has to go through the PCIe.
Davinci Resolve does better job than Apple Color with RR.

Thank you. I guess I'd assumed that if RR did one part (the debayer) it would do the other as well.

My PCI card slots are filling up rapidly.

RR is strictly RED debayering only :).

I've just tried to print to tape after kextunloading, but FCP would still drop frames. As before, it's fine if video playback setting is set to 720p.

Thanks for your help, though.
Sounds to me like your PCIe Bus speeds are getting dropped on your kona card with the RR in your computer.. Try moving the slots, or mess with the Expansion Slot Utility. It is here /System/Library/CoreServices/Expansion Slot Utility.app on your system.

Hi all,

I've been shooting 3K/59.94p with 16GB Compactflash cards and finishing in 1080/60i provides amazingly smooth and solid results. However, some footage files appear all broken on Apple Color timeline (with RedRocket on or off), although the exact same files look fine in Clipfinder's Edit Look window. I guess this is a glitch from the RED Color plug-in 4.3?

Correction: I did find a glitch in the footage. The coded errors appear in few frames. The errors won't show up crazily in QT player (proxy playback) and Clipfinder (both in proxy playback and the edit look) but the problems get some how amplified in Apple Color.

I've had similar issues between Clipfinder and Redcine-x where Redcine-x wouldn't play one copy of a clip but if I use the other it will and both are fine in Clipfinder. Or Redcine-x will 'gloss' (for lack of a better word), over drop frames where Clipfinder will show them as green or gray. The good side of that is Redcine-x on transcoding will transcode through the problem most of the time but I always use Clipfinder's monitor and watch features to check that all frames were transcoded. Clipfinder has saved my butt a couple times with it's little Red box. If they're all green you're usually good. Haven't brought this stuff into Color, I'll have to check that next time.

Most of my stuff is at 4K 23.98 cause DPs want the extra lens, but good to hear you're getting good results at 3k. Just got off a commercial that shot 29.97 and 3k occasionally to overcrank at 40 fps. I don't like using cards often though for the short loads and you have to often decrease Redcode to get to the same settings. Red Ram is my favorite when I can get them. (soon to be bested by 1.8" I'm guessing).
