  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Resolve slower on Win7 than on OSX on same PC (Hackintosh)

Hi,

I wanted to move away from Resolve on OSX hackintosh and use the Windows version. I installed v8.3 beta and everything seems to work normaly apart from the speed. Clips where I get real time speed on OSX play back only with 9fps.

Here's my config (same as in Luigi's hackintosh thread)

3,2GHz i7 (Quad)
24GB RAM
8TB RAID0
DeckLink HD Extreme 3D+
3x GTX480

I tried using following comands in the Debug window, but it doesn't change the playback speed.

LsManager.3.NumGPUs = 3
LsManager.3.GPUMapping = 0 1 2
LsManager.3.GPUMappingEnable = 1

Any clues where the problem might be?

Hi David,

It should be fairly similar I would think. Please remove the debug settings, it causes one of the GPUs to be shared for GUI and CUDA processing, and this will give you less speed overall.

1. What motherboard are you using, and is the GUI card in a x16 PCI-E 2.0 slot? It is important that it is.
2. Try using 8-bit video monitoring and see if that helps.
3. What codec are you trying to play? Test with a codec like pro-res which is not very disk I/O intensive to rule out disk bandwidth related issues.

Regards,
Rohit

I'm using 10bit DPX files but disk speed shouldn't be a problem (8x 1TB RAID0 with Areca RAID controller).

Adding or removing the debug setting doesn't change the speed.

My GPUs are in slot 3/5/7, so in PCIe Gen2 slots.

Latest drivers are installed.

Try adding this to the Preferences/Debug to reduce the number of I/O threads:

Local.DtManager.1.Threads = 1

Default is 8 threads, if you don't add this setting.

Interesting since the same GPUs are doing all the work?

It's the same machine, just booted either into OSX or Win7. The RAID works fine since I get 25fps without any grades applied. Must be a problem with the GPUs...

I installed the recommended 280.26 driver... nothing changed.

I added a nVidia GT520 as display card in PCIe slot 1... 50% speed increase (15fps instead of 10fps with 3x GTX480), but still faaaaar away from the speed I get using 3x GTX480 in OSX.

@ Peter Chamberlain: Does Resolve have maybe an issue with GTX480 cards? I use Colorful cards which have the standard nVidia design. If there is an issue... can I hope for a fix in the final Windows version? Would be quite a bummer if I would have to buy GTX580 cards.

Just a thought... maybe it's a Quicktime problem? Newest version installed? Does Resolve use all three 470GTX cards in windows?

Reinstalled Quicktime last week without any success, but read somewhere on creative cow that this problem is somehow folder related.

If I plug in a GT520 in the first PCIe slot, Resolve uses all 3 GTX480 for CUDA. Otherwise it uses only 2 GTX480.
