  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Resolve only Recognize x8 Rocket lane?

If memory serves me correctly, I updated to Mountain Lion prior to my installation of Resolve 9.0 (updated to 9.0.1). Would love someone using Resolve (full version) to chime in and see how long it's taking to render to full 5k/4k output to pro-res.

Will try reinstalling.

I have the full version and my renders are real time to faster than real time to 1080p. Try outputting to 1080p and see what speed you get.

Wow..like no change...getting only 1fps highest quality to 1080p and that's with the Rocket. Something is totally wrong.

remove the Sonnet and what speeds do you get to 1080p out?

Getting 4fps/highest quality to 1080 output without Rocket full rez. 5K half res, no rocket, 4fps. 5K full rez, no rocket, 0fps. With Rocket all times, 0fps.

Something is wrong with your setup then. There is a problem with your rocket and Resolve obviously. I have my rocket in a 4x slot and get real time playback and rendering with multiple nodes. Only time I drop in performance is when using Noise Reduction.

Have you contact Dwayne or Davinci?

What's weird is the rocket works very well in RCX..just in resolve where I'm having the issues. What about your transcode time to full 5/4k? May have to call BMD.

Try muting the audio in Resolve. It's a little speaker icon on the viewer window. I was getting horrible fps with the rocket and found a post on creative cow- muted audio and it plays 1/2GOOD realtime. Yes, rocket shows up as 8x - NO but is recognized by resolve even though it shows this. It recognizes driver and firmware. My screen looks like yours but the rocket works as expected giving 1/2 good realtime in resolve. try the audio thinG!

I will def'n test that out even though I'm more worried about transcoding times. :-)

Dwaine can certainly help with the technical detail but just so we can be sure to understand your config; you have a iMac and also a 17" MBP. You have a Rocket connected via a Sonnet Thunderbolt cable. Unfortunately we don't know the OS version or Resolve version you are using.

The Thunderbolt has a x4 bandwidth so you will not get the x8 check to say Yes. The x4 bandwidth is also light for dealing with large files, particularly uncompressed 5K Epic and if you set the Rocket to decode at full res thats what is happening. Your compressed r3d images are being made into RGB 5K and pushed down a 4K pipe to the iMac GPU. In Resolve, the output of the Rocket is sent to the GPU, which in your case is also the GUI graphic card.

Try setting the debayer to 1/2 res, and in Resolves project settings, video monitoring, set the check box for 'Use optimised display mode during playback, and video level to 8 bit.

Finally, you can verify the Resolve operation by playing a ProRes 1080 file with your same grade to see if the node combination you are using is too much for the limited GPU in the iMac.

Just did a test with my Mac Pro. I'm getting real time playback and render of a 5K sequence with 6 cc nodes (no noise reduction or sharpening as that slows down render times).

I'm running a rocket in a x4 slot, a gt120 for the GUI and a GTX470 as the GPU. Working on OSX 10.8.1 and Resolve 9 release full version. My system is an 8 core with 24gb ram. Although it is a faster setup I definitely think something is wrong with your system or permissions cause your tests seem way too slow. Let me know if theres anything I can test to help you out.

I rendered a sequence today with the sonnet and MBPr and got 12 fps on render (checked force highest quality debayer). As I wrote before, I can get realtime playback of R3d in resolve at half premium 5k with the rocket and sonnet.

Gosh I wish I knew why mine is so jacked up! Getting so incredibly frustrated.

Im on 10.8.1, have latest update for resolve, Cuda updated, and I even set the resolution to force debayering to half good. I would understand if RCX wasn't seeing the rocket or working either, but I get faster than RT transcodes to 1080'from 5K.

Anyone else have any ideas? Maybe permission issue..but where do I start!

Oh, and I love the RU community...time and time again this community bands together to troubleshoot each other's problems. :-)

Anyone have a 10.8.0 version of Mountain Lion download they can FTP to me? Seems that I can't roll back to 10.8.0 (trying to do a clean install to solve the problem) since when I restart, wipe drive, then download the ML update, it automatically updates it to 10.8.2 AHHHH!!!

I think there are some issues with checking this little box. There is NO change in render time when I check both boxes under output to "force quality/scaling to highest setting." However, when I go under the general settings tab (little wrench icon lower left hand corner), change that to Full Res Premium, 16 bit, etc, render times tank.

Render times for even half res still crazy slow as well with rocket. As mentioned previously, get about 4fps without rocket for half good debayer to full 5K. About the same to 1080.
