Hello all, I'm pleased to report that we have tested the late 2012 21" and 27" iMac 13,2 systems and both are suitable for Resolve 9.0.4.

The specific configs we tested are

21.3" iMac 13,2 with 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7, with 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT650M and Mountain Lion 10.8.2
27" iMac 13,2 with 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, with 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT680MX and Mountain Lion 10.8.2

The systems tested also used the new Fusion drive which offers faster boot times and we used a ThunderBolt drive for image storage and playback.

Note; in both cases we tested the i7 as the CPU is used for ProRes and DNxHD decoding, and both systems had 16GB of RAM. The NVIDIA GeForce GT650M would comfortably play 3 nodes with color correction and some blur at 24fps while decoding HD DNxHD and the NVIDIA GeForce GT680MX 9 nodes.

Clearly the faster GPU is better for image processing so we expect the systems with a GTX 675MX graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory or the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX with 2GB of GDDR5 will offer more nodes of correction in real time. A larger GPU ram is also better to handle higher res images.

We will include these systems in our next configuration guide.

Good to know, thanks Peter!

Great Peter,
Thanks for the test. Ordering an IMac 27" fully loaded in a few days.
I am still on the fence about the Fusion Drive, I understand it is not integrated with a 7200 rpm drive, but with a 5600rpm drive.
Do think that is fast enough for editing and accessing video or should I get the 3tb 7200?

We tested the systems with an external ThunderBolt RAID from Promise. There are a number of other suitable vendors that also offer ThunderBolt. I prefer to have my images on a RAID array and as we didnt test the internal storage specifically for image playback i cant guide you on that front.

I have the new iMac 27 - fully spec'd out with their highest offering of GPU and RAM and Fusion Drive. Resolve is great on this thing!!! Also on 10.8.2 with RedRocket in a Sonnet Tbolt enclosure. It smokes. Really responsive with the Tangent Wave controls. Loving it!

well it seems like any non-red footage is playing faster than realtime. clips are 23.98 and all options set to 23.98 in settings. Cant seem to figure out why it plays so fast...

Did you save your Preferences? Maybe it was set to use the Decklink card, and you don't have that connected anymore or something like that.

I think I may have just not had the Ultrastudio connected! Thank you!!!! Again, I am just loving Resolve. Getting 50+ fps rendering out Alexa 4444 footage to Proxy Prores for dailies. Amazing.

HI Peter, have you tested noise removal on the new iMacs? If so how is the performance compared to the desktop based GPU cards?
