  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Resolve Grade: 10 mins of life gone...

Really interesting thread. But now I have a question. and please excuse any misunderstanding/ or wrong assumptions on my part

Red colour 3 is basically a lut applied to the raw data, to get it into decent viewing space? in which colour gamut does it work?

Red gamma 3 and red log film then map gamma logarithmically over a linear sensor colour display?

Tim,

I think more than LUTs, the new science/colors are rather algorithms that govern the debayering process. I am pretty sure at one point Graeme indicated that the RedColor/Gamma are within Rec.709 color space. Now, RedColor/RedLogFilm is EXACTLY equivalent to a Cineon file. I can attest to this since we have work on several film-out projects, and the results are 100% equivalent.

Thanks for the suggestions Luis.

Do you (or anyone else) know of any tutorials online that would help explain how to balance the whites and blacks to have no color shift as shown in the video?

Thanks!

Daniel,

To answer your question it is necessary to get a hold of various training lessons available that will teach you how to use Resolve. It is impossible to use a forum to learn how to master the use of a software.

Now, in order to adjust the blacks and whites, you need to start with a calibrated display. That by itself, is another entire different topic that you will need to get the on-line training courses available.

fxPhD has different training courses, which I think are a good starting point, in my opinion. After that, with a good amount of "try and error", you can assess the areas that you want to challenge yourself more, and that will determine your next steps.

Hope this helps...
