  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Resolve for Windows - GTX vs Quadro

Do you mean, that both GUI and GPU functions on your rig are running off single 580 card at real time speed?

Yes, indeed. I have tried running GTX 580 exclusively for both GUI and processing. At 1080p, it holds real-time upto 10 nodes or so. Realistically, I failed to knock it out of real-time. Like I mentioned above, even an ancient 5 year old 8800 GTX will get you real-time for primary correction and 2-3 nodes! Using a GTX 560 for GUI, the GPU usage fluctuates around 5%, using a 8800 GTX it is around 15% - so the GUI functions aren't very intensive. However, seeing as how Quadro 600 is cheap, I think Quadro 600 + GTX 580 could be an excellent combination for most 1080p usage. Of course, I assume 4K will need more power.

I'm testing my Resolve with 1 gtx 470 evga for the interface and 2 gtx 580 1.5gb Evga sc ds for CUDA, and 1 Redrocket + decklink 3d.
With files at 24 fps 5k. R3D epic.
Setting is: Half debayer and 1080p resolution timeline, add 5 nodes whit noise reduction only for testing, the system always go realtime. Only whit 6 node system go down at 22-23 fps.

- Icon is missing on the clips HDR
- Occasionally, quicktime error window appears.

In these days I'll try 'to do other tests for stability, I would like to have the option to XDCAM codec.
I'd like an HP Z800 Workstation maybe someone is already doing some tests with Resolve?

Which motherboard are you using? I'm on Asus P8P67, with Geforce GT520 (gui) and GTX 285, and it's not so impressive.. no real-time 1080p. Wonder if it's a mobo issue, or if it's just that the 580 that makes the difference..

This board is only for home computers. The Intel P67 chipset only supports up to 20 PCIx lanes, so the second GPU only works in x4 mode, that is the bottleneck.

Is it even possible to do HDRx with one RR card in real time? I thought, that you need 2 RR for that and 4 RR for HDRx with 3D.

I must add that I was using XDCAM EX MOV files which are very light. There could be some other bottlenecks. E.g. 4K RED debayer is bottlenecked by the CPU and GPU memory even on a 1080p timeline - until you drop the resolution down in the Source tab. R3D debayering is not as fast as Premiere Pro. Check your GPU usage for the GTX 285 - is it reaching ~90% or so? Manuel has a valid point - the second PCI-e slot in some P67 motherboards is X4, which is a definite bottleneck. Try moving GTX 285 to the X16 slot. Other P67 motherboards just distribute X8 across 2 slots, which is again potentially a bottleneck. I am still on the X58 platform which does have 2x X16 slots.

Ciao Jake,
now I'm out for work, just let you know back. ;)
I can do 23 knots in 4K color correction including blur and all in real time.
Hdrx I have not tried yet.
One thing I do not understand is why when I open the Waveform everything collapses under 15 fps without any node, Rohit perhaps give me an explanation, but Mac OSX does not do.

thanks
Luigi
At what resolution or 5kFF 4kFF hdrx ?

Same here, the display still indicates 25 fps but it stutters. Such issues are expected in beta software and I am sure it will be fixed soon.

I did some testing today:
configuration:

1 I7 950 3 GHz CPU
Windows 7 64-bit CUDA Driver 4.1 RC2
1 gtx 470 gpu gui for 1.gb
2 CUDA GPU GTX 580 1.5GB
12 gb ram
1 and 2 redrocket redrocket for test
3d 1 blacmagic
SATA internal RAID 0 ich10r ,5 disk internal 400mb / s

White 1 REDROCKET:

RED 5K EPIC FF debayer full 17 fps no node (not realtime)
RED 5K EPIC FF half debayer 24 fps no node (real time)
RED 5K EPIC FF half debayer 24 fps blur node 20 (realtime)
RED 5K EPIC FF half debayer 21 fps 24 nodes (no realtime)
RED 5K EPIC FF HDRX full debayer 9 fps (no realtime)
RED 5K EPIC FF HDRX half debayer 12 fps (not realtime)
5K FF REDEPIC HDRX half deabyer 12 fps blur node 20 (no realtime)

White 2 REDROCKET:

RED 5K EPIC FF debayer full 24 fps no node (real time)
RED 5K EPIC FF half debayer 24 fps no node (real time)
RED 5K EPIC FF 24 fps full debayer blur node 20 (realtime)
RED 5K EPIC FF debayer full 20 fps 24 nodes (norealtime)
RED 5K EPIC FF HDRX debayer full 17 fps (not realtime)
RED 5K EPIC FF HDRX half debayer 24 fps (real time)
5K FF REDEPIC HDRX half debayer 24 fps blur node 20 (realtime)

DPX files:

4K 10-bit DPX 9 fps whit or whitout node node no change framerate, i think the problemis to 1CPU only.

Someone could try a dual xeon and see the differences
