  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Resolve 8.2.1 beta includes Redcolor3/Redgamma3 and Magic Motion!

Guys,

Am I missing a trick here? We have on one side a complete 4K round-trip workflow within Adobe Production Premium. Still I am struggling with finding a grading application that allows me to finish grading in 4K! How come Davinci Resolve cannot accept Premiere Pro 5.5 files? I understand you can output from Premiere 5.5 a FCP XML, but still, there should be a way for these two applications (Premiere - Resolve) to talk directly to each other.

That way, it would be all the way in 4K. Do let me know if you know a better way to deal with the workflow. I only tried to have a play on Resolve 8.0. Is this issue addressed in version 8.2.1?

Not sure what you mean, Antonio. I export XML's from Premier, import them into Resolve, Grade the R3Ds, Render 4k files and then reconform in Premier. Full 4k Rountrip. This is how I handled the teaser for our new short which screened at RED's Open House last month.

You need a lot of VRAm in your video card, at least 2 GIGS. 1 GIG only does 1080p If you have the Vram, just set the timeline to 4K when you import the XML and you are done.

Oh... And you need the full version to go over 1080p output. Lite maxes out at 1080p.

Awesome. Now if they can just add Audio passthrough I'll be a happy bunny, purchase the full software version and use it for 100% of my grading.

Cheers, Hywel.

They made mistake on the file for the paid version as lite version on the first day. It's fixed already.

Although I really like the introduction of redcolor 3 and redgamma 3 in resolve (I use anyway redlogfilm) what I like most is the ablity to manage the hdrx as in rcx. It's more practical and the results are better compared to the older method in resolve. Also I had the problem that when there were scenes with hdrx with several nodes resolve sometimes failed to render at full res premium, maybe a limitation of my system but now with the HDRX adjustable in the red settings the problem has gone! Good job!
