Hi.
Conformed a feature, but noticed that it would be a good thing to take it to RCX and do a firstlight, as it was exposed all over the place and with a multitude of odd lightsources...

Is there a way to reload clipmetadata from RMD?

Spoke with the Resolve guys about making a firstlight window at IBC, which they seemed to buy into.

But only being able to reload from RMD, would help a lot...

A lot, actually in a case like this.

I could of course go linear, but issue is that colors and exposure is so much "all over the place" that normalizing the scenes a bit from RAW makes the grade a bit quicker and easier.

I go RLF, of course.

batch metadata changes are not that simple in resolve. It is either "all" or a "per clip" basis.

Like here, there are groups of images that needs a bit of different treatment, because exposure and lighting is so random.

A simple "reload from RMD" would have saved me tons of time.

No Gunlec. You're wrong.
You need to read the manual and learn the difference between "Apply changes to all selected clips" and "Apply settings to all selected clips". It is absolutely possible to do in Resolve what you're asking for. Actually, there is absolutely no difference in using metadata in Resolve or RCX or for that matter any other color grading software.

I know there is no difference in the metadata, but they are so much quicker to work with in RCX.

Even Premiere gets a reload from RMD function now.

But thanks.

I know I can change (almost) everything on a "per edit" base in resolve.

But I can quickly go through a full timeline and do meta adjustments in RCX. Would have been cool to not have to reconform/re-read everything, but it isn't such a big hassle.

just miss that button:

reread metadata from RMD.

that is it :)

And in this case I def do not want cam metadata + RLF...

It is sily stuff in the cam metadata...

hahahaha

I disagree, again.
I volunteer, that jumping between two aps for something, that can be easily done in just Resolve is faster and makes more sense, as there is no need for two conforms. One conform is bad enough. And RCX doesn't work with anything, but R3D. There is a big world out there beside Red.

Sure.

but this is all r3d's, actually. (not my project, btw... :)

and reload from RMD is a simple request.
Allows for quick solutions to things, actually.

Anyhow. I am quite aware of the world outside RED.
In this case, though, it is all purely RED, and this is a red forum and it is a RED related request/question.

Good way to work quickly around cluster f***cks, really :)

But thanks for answering!

Made it work, BTW by just reloading the files after the trip to RCX...

best!

Still not sure that your understanding what Jake is saying. You can adjust the raw settings of a single clip in Resolve and then apply that adjustment to selected clips. You dont have to work on a clip per clip basis. Same as RCX.

I completely understand it, it just does not work the way I want it to.

but anyhow, just reloaded the clips and everything was ok.

btw, the conform to rcx was faster and with less "wrongs" than the one to resolve from aaf.

there are of course reasons from the dit from that, but still... :)

Jake your answers are a bit condescending. I must say you often are. Sometimes it's warranted, but Gunleik is very knowledgeable about post. Your way of doing things is not the only way, and you may be talented, but you are not God and all-knowing. We all have different types of clients and different work-flows - some don't work at all but some work just as well as yours, may I even say better under some circumstances. You seem to assume everyone on forums is an idiot compared to you. Only some people are.

You also seem to forget the following:

- Until V10 which is still very unstable it was very hard to make "somewhat graded" offline rushes in Resolve with synched sound, so many people did that in RCX - just to give the editor a reasonable idea of what shots would look like later
- using 3rd party panels there is no support for control panel adjustment of RAW parameters in Resolve, but there is in RCX - making RAW adjustment faster and more convenient in RCX
- If the editor will be working in Premiere, here again using RCX to do a one-light for him or her is useful. Then it would be nice to have that one-light available readily within Resolve as a starting point for final in-context grading.
- Premiere does a perfect job of bringing in all modifications to Red files from RCX - i.e. clips looks the same in RCX and Premiere. Resolve fails at importing much data, particularly changes made to the Lift Gamma Gain sliders and pots in RCX, which seem to just be reset to zero.
- In Premiere you can save RAW settings kind of like they were looks in a database - handy.
- RCX is now GPU accelerated in terms of the debayer itself - again, faster to work.

My own work flow on some projects is to grade in RCX (just a rough) edit in Premiere, then finalize in after Effects/Resolve.

I'm sure you don;t do it that way, and that you are much more talented/powerful/rich and able to buy the best tools, have the best clients, are invited to the White House to discuss color etc. and "know" that is the wrong way, but that workflow works for me, and it woudl work much better with such handy widgets as "reload from RCX", "save to RMD" and the ability to load RCX looks I save from a list, just like Premiere.

You accuse Jake of being condescending and then you write that? :001_unsure:

Hi Robert,

I beg to disagree with you regarding Resolve being difficult to create one light dailies for any of the standard non-linear editors on the market. I've been using Resolve in our facility to create dailies at over 80fps with sync sound and one lights for rushes, often on the same day the media is being recorded. I've done multi-million dollar features with it and although its not perfect it works quite well and I've never had an issue with speed for creating a grade and or rendering dailies.
As for Jake, well, he is a very well respected member of this community as well and is just informing Gunleik there is a way to do what he is suggesting and or a work around, but I don't think Gunleik quite understands, and or knows Resolve well enough to execute in a timeframe he would consider reasonable for the particular project at hand.

Doing dailies on set in V9 is tough unless you have some way to hear SDI sound, which I do not (on set, where I was doing this). Again, it did not work for my particular situation on the few occasions I've had to do dailies quickly - RCX was more convenient.

I have tremendous respect for Jake's knowledge and proven abilities. His arrogance is a bit much some time. Then again, probably so is mine :-)

Again, I do respect Jake. Just sometimes he seems to assume that everyone not following the exact same path and workflow as him is a contemptible idiot. I do not assume my way is the best, only one valid way that just works for my particular needs, among many others, including his.

We are not all full time colorists with access to very high buy-budgets for gear. We all have to do our best with our own set of circumstances, but that does not mean we are not worthy of respect if we are doing so to the best of our abilities.

Hi.

I did not wanna start a war over this! ;)

and conforms are cool these days, as long as they work.
And when they do not, you have to "workflow" them ;)

Thanks for the input!

What can you do in RCX, that you're unable to do in Resolve, necessitating an extra step using another app, especially if you need to use RLF? There are no LUTs in RCX, making it pretty useless for working with RLF.

Just curious...

Can you R3d trim in Resolve?

We sometimes do a 2 step conform and this one of the reasons why... Be great to do all in Resolve.
