I'm not sure this will get picked up but I'm trying.

The sensor swap and laser damage coverage that RED has does not cover Scarlet-W dragon sensor.

I think it would be a great idea if we can have the option for this as well.

I've recently been hit with a hefty bill for a sensor replacement due to laser damage.
I can understand the bill, but would really love if we have a cheaper alternative to protect ourselves against these damages.

I hope that someone from RED reads this and is willing to take this into consideration.

I find the ratio between purchasing a new SW and replacing the sensor very high and therefor think that if we can have similar coverage offers to what is provided for higher tier cameras it would be really great!

Fingers crossed :)

Cheers.

Also please accept AMEX credit card in Europe as you do in the US please?

Can anyone elaborate about "Laser damage"..?

Thanks

Sensor damage is serious business with all cameras. RED's offering is good for the top tier bodies and some insurance companies cover laser strikes and general camera damage as well.

But why not all DSMC2 bodies? Especially when the sensor is almost the same price as a new cam?

Because the SW isn't a high enough profit margin for Red to warrant that kind of coverage. It's the kind of thing that is built into that $17k price gap...

I'd happily pay 2500$ for coverage over 7000$ for a SW sensor. (cheaper than the newer sensors)

I think in this case, and I suppose all, laser damage is from a higher frequency laser hitting the sensor and causing it to no longer function or no longer function correctly.

Thanks for the links and info.

And Phil too.

We are looking into very precise optical alignment systems and although it would be possible to use laser light in a non damaging way, the fact that "Laser = sensor damage" as being common knowledge means we should use white light/monochromatic non coherent light sources for projecting fiducials and the like.

Good to know

Cheers.
