  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rental Price £250 for full package?

Do you mean an Indie feature?

Most if the low budgets I have worked on use good lenses and I would never use a set of still lenses on a feature.

Even a low budget feature is in a league to pay for a good set of lenses. if they didn't have that how could they pay for the skilled personal?

I guess it depends on how little money they want to spend but all things considered the lenses have to be the least of there worries finacially.

Oh yes, absolutely.

But you can tell by reading this forums there are many who want or already are going a still lens route.

As one likes it.

Yes, there are many worries that have to be tackled when making a low budget feature and the budget of some cine lenses is the last one.

Good luck with that Akube. Are you renting your 1977 toyota 1/4 ton as a $900 a day grip truck to go along with it?

Just a sidenote -

I find it interesting reading a thread like this. I get the impression that there will be many new "rental houses" entering the market based on the RED camera. The thing is: All the rental houses that serve the extisting market already will rent out RED cameras as well, sooner or later. So, either there will be a big boom of new films or big competition on camera rentals.

...

Either way a RED body will be rented out for that what it is a 17.500k Dollar investment.

I am sure there will be many REDs on ebay.

Hans

I expect the rental prices for the camera body sinking quickly towards q4/2008.
I wouldn´t be surprised to see 100-150 euro daily rates for a red body then.
in oversaturated markets as rental 0.5-1% are rather realistic, and due to red, the 35mm market will be pretty oversaturated by the end of 2008.

Yep. People without the contacts and work already in place will be scrambling to sell their red camera paper weight on ebay for $10,000 to try and recoupe some of their money.

yeah you are definitly right...who wants to make money from rentals gotta have to do it fast....because there will be so many reds out there...and the rental houses who doesnt have one yet, because they are conservative could easily buy one to five reds and they will get it in a much much shorter time.

Arri 435 Kit - £1200 p/d
D20 Kit - £2000 p/d
F900R Kit - £750 p/d

Which of these prices did you have in mind?

I guess one would have to go with the lowest common denominator - that being the F900. That may also be the entry level for RED a producer may justify.... "for the same rate as an F900 we can use a RED with much higher quality look".

But traditional rental houses may just use a formula based on investment, in which case it would be much cheaper.

I for one am not in the rental business, but do want to charge my clients a fair market price for my gear on productions I am shooting.

That might turn out when the workflow is widely excepted and all obstacles are cleared out. Until then most producers prefer tape. Convincing them just with quality is rarely working.

Ya red is turning out to be a really, really tough sell to producers and a lot of owners are now seeing that. Hence the reason for the apple thread I started this weekend.

Hey Finner, you really support this community, but your attitude towards some users is beginning to be unpolite....this behaviour doesnt match with you.
its sad.

This is Off-topic (sorry).

It's not just Apple or pears, what ever. It's Avid. I hate to say it but it's Avid. If this is sorted out without any big investments we are there. Interesting how much power Avid has.

The other day I had a chat about a upcoming job - commercial for cinema - the producer laughed at me (for artistic reason? Why not 35mm...) No one in my realm believes in a proved workflow. This is the main reason why RED will have a hard time in commercial land.

I don't mean to offend anyone and am honestly sorry if I do.

It all is in fun. I have a half naked speedo wearing Hoff avatar for goodness sakes. Due to that alone I should not be taken seriously when I make such posts. Bassam I was just joking with you and hope in no way I hurt your feelings. I assumed you knew it was just in fun.

There is only 1 person I have ever been intentionally harsh to here because that person has called down and said some very rude, ignorant things to highly regarded proffesionals. One of which stopped comming here because of that person, which was a big loss to the reduser comunity. IMO that person should have been shut out of here right then.

But honestly I am just having some fun with Bassam and I don't want to hurt feelings so I will stop.... for a while anyway.

Bassam are we cool?
