  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RELEASED: Release and Beta Firmware Versions

Somebody Load The New Firmware And Give Us Some Sample Shots With Frame Rate Ramping!!!

I assume this is similar to the Black Balance settings on most video cameras.
Black balance doesn't take six minutes to complete, nor is it required before using the camera. I am inclined to believe this is something more complex... but that's just one guy's thought.

Much more complex... and it needs to be done.

Jim

usually you do an operation like that whenever a major temperature shift happens, or the working environment changes.

Audio Recording and Metering, OPEN GATE mode for RED-EVF, SYNC Mode for RED-EVF, False Color and Zebra on HDMI and PVW HD-SDI, GMT Time and Day with Time Zone offset, Programmable GPIO’s, Interval and Trigger based TimeLapse, Frame Rate Ramping, Black Shading Calibration / Highlight Streak Suppression

Awesome! :gun:

THIS IS too much really ..  thanks REDTEAM for XMAS gifts

How often does it need to be done? (Only once... At the beginning of each project... Or each time a lens is changed?)

This is not like other Black Level adjustments in other cameras. It really only needs to be done once. It is a major sensor calibration for the camera. Make sure the body cap is on. This is extremely IMPORTANT! If a lens is on... make SURE the lens cap is on! NO LIGHT TO THE SENSOR.

Jim

It only needs to be done once but it's very important to note that you shouldn't go back to a previous build once you've gone to build 12 and run the black level compensation.

Cant wait to see some Timelapse footage with the new firmware option
thanks and happy christmas

Black Calibration on other camera

Black Calibration on other camera

Haven't had a chance to shoot with Red yet. However, when using the Phantom high speed cameras, black calibration seemed to get rid of a number of annoying image glitches, which on the Phantom tend to occur often. I guess that we were doing black calibration about every couple of hours. It did seem to reduce some of the fixed pattern noise.

Bad Things Happen™?

I'm guessing that Build 12 enables access to the sensor calibration nonvolatile memory; and performing black level compensation may provide sensor information incompatible with earlier builds, which would then record... shall we say "interesting" images?

Somewhat comparable to mis-processing film, could make for an interesting experiment - or it could be really ugly! :D

In reading the latest version of the manual, I noticed a mistake in the information provided on page 59.

In the first table, the manual currently reads:
__________________________________________________________
Pin Signal Description Direction
1 GND Camera ground --
2 IN + Mic/Line input (+48V Phantom Power) In (out)
3 IN - Mic/Line input In
__________________________________________________________

All are correct except for Pin 3 (inverting input)
It should read:

__________________________________________________________
3 IN - Mic/Line input (+48V Phantom power) In (out)
__________________________________________________________
Phantom power is applied to both the inverting and non-inverting pins via a pair of 6k8 resistors from a source that is elevated 48 Volts in relationship to the common (GND) pin.

A few questions:
(I have enabled audio)
Is audio recorded as a seperate file or embedded into the .rd3 file?

Does in-camera playback support audio?

I do not get audio playback in camera and dont see any audio files on the CF. I can hear the audio when recording and see audio in the meter.

EDIT:
Ok stupid, the audio is embedded in the QT files.
So it appears that in-camera playback is not yet supported.

BTW- I am occasionally getting noise in the headphone output. I cant seem to replicate this since it first happened.

EDIT 2:
Noise is back- camera took 2 minutes to boot and now has noise in headphone out.

EDIT 3:
hiss is also recorded.

Yes I am getting the same exact thing here.

Other than that, this is the strongest build yet.

1) no audio playback in build 12 indeed

2) audio is recorded inside the R3D files

3) the only way to currently use that audio track is through the QuickTime wrappers

4) regenerating the QuickTime wrappers in RED ALERT will *remove* the audio tracks!! A fix for this is high on the todo list for January.

Got it. Thanks, Rob. Any words on the headphone static?
