  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RELEASED: RED Final Cut Studio 2 Installer

Somebody on another board pointed out why the Kona slows things down...it's resizing 2048 to 1920 on the fly, and it has to use the CPU to do so.

A Kona 3 will do it in hardware without a slowdown, with the newest 6.0 drivers.

My Multibridge Extreme seems to have the same issue. With external monitoring off I get full framerate, on it's at about 22 FPS. It works fine with H proxies though.

I had a buddy that reported he was getting Full/High RT setting playback on Native REDCODE without any drop frames. Because of his report I thought something was wrong with my system. What happened was that the Native install went wrong and he was really just transcoding to Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ). Chances are with the Native plugin if your timeline is not orange then you are probably not importing the clip as "Native". Your settings in "Preferences" for Native should look like this:

Below is "NOT" the settings for a Native Compressor import:

Don't confuse the two. This part is quite misleading because of the wording.

In your browser the newly transferred clip should be listed as "REDCODE" in the Compressor column:

The "Sequence" should be listed in the Compressor column as "Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)".

This is what your timeline should look like before any rendering is applied:

Vat is di "Max"

Vat is di "Max"

Sorry, I've missed something along the way. What is the "Max" setting you guys are disabling?

Thanks!

on build 17 cameras you can activate in the project settings the MAX function, which writes the highest possible quality of signal into the r3d file.

Importing R3D......

Did you read the white paper that came with the plugin?

ive seen the white paper and follow the workflow that it gives/and the apple log and transfer paper......what happens is i mount the footage on a drive go to log and transfer (native setting) and the 'log and transfer' window does not recognize the mounted drive.

it would be awesome if someone could make a short tutorial on the new workflow....since apparently people are having problems

Hello,

Richard Darge made this great video that shows him going step by step through the workflow:

http://picturewindowproductions.com/tutorials/APPLE+RED=BLISS.mov

He posted it a few days ago earlier here on the forum, but for those that missed it, and might be having some trouble - take a look. (Thanks Richard for taking the time to do that for the benefit of all wanting to learn more about this new workflow)

The white paper that comes along with the installer package on our support site is also very comprehensive and covers the process well.

Nice video... for short clips

When you have a shot with more than the 2Gb limit, and 1 clip is spread over multiple r3d files you get the "typical" looping problem in color (not in FCP).

This is not only a RED R3D related problem, it also appears with Sony EX material...

Perhaps a Color bug?

so can i just open log and transfer, and then log one single R3D clip that is sitting on say a desktop folder, and then transfer it into/convert(pro res) FCP?

As long as the folder has an RDC extension as it did when it came from the camera media. Also, make sure the R3D files retain their numeric suffixes as generated by the camera.

e.g.

Desktop
myclip.RDC
myclip_001.R3D
myclip_002.R3D

The RDC folder may also be contained within an RDM folder, which is also camera generated. To make an already too long story short, when copying to your desktop, take the entire folder structure from the RED media and you'll be fine.

I'm getting dropped frames at:

Playback Frame Rate: Full
Playback Video Quality: Low

Footage 2048x1024. System is an 8 core 2.93GHz with 6GB of RAM. I haven't gotten any clips to playback without dropped frames. On the old 8 core Mac Pro I had clips playback at low quality without dropped frames. Anyone else experiencing this on the new Mac Pro's?
