  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RELEASED: RED ADOBE CS4 INSTALLER (v1.3.0)

So it is true, i'm the only one who is:
- fully updated
- editing like a breeze on a mbpro
- unable to reopen a saved project: "this project contained a sequence that could not be open. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associate ith this sequence type"

I'm having the same issues here on an 8core Mac Pro w/ 10 GB ram

Can you check something for me:

If you navigate to your Adobe Premiere Pro folder, right-click the app icon & choose 'show package contents', can you verify if the following file exists:

/Contents/Settings/EncoderPresets/SequencePreview/795454D9-D3C2-429d-9474-923AB13B7018/I-Frame Only MPEG.epr

)

I'm missing the "I-Frame Only MPEG.epr" file

Anyone know where I can get one?

Also, as a test, can you create a new sequence, select one of the RED presets, and then click over in the 'New Sequence' dialog to the General tab & tell me what Preview File formats are available?

(See attached screen shot)

(If you want to experiment, if you don't have the MPEG preview option available, try creating sequence with QuickTime instead as your selection, & see if you can save & reload this as a sequence type. The only thing you would lose is the ability to create MPEG preview files of your timeline.)

Hey Wil,
thanks for your time. Are you with the Adobe/Red team?
- The file you asked is present in the folder you indicated.
- Both Quicktime and I-frame Only MPEG are present in the general settings of the sequence

Tested a sequence with Quicktime as you suggested and it works fine. I can edit, change resolution, save, quit, reopen and output.
Timeline playback is not smooth at 512 like it is when using mpeg, the yellow render bar is present.
It seems you nailed it. Any fixing suggestion?

Hi Paolo,

Glad I could help in some way...

I have just updated everything on another computer (the I-Frame file is present this time) and am still having the same problem!

Hi Paolo,

(Yeah, I'm part of the engineering team @ Adobe.)

If the .epr file is there, then I'm not sure why it would fail. Can you attach a zip file with the .epr file, and a sample .prproj file that won't reload?

Thanks

Not to get this offtopic of the problem arising, but just a question to Will

(Glad to see Adobe is on here, it means alot)

I know you're getting asked, but wasn't sure if there will be an update soon on metadata?

I know you just released this, lol, just in case you didn't get this question yet... heh....

Zac

I can't get saturation to preview using Color Change. Anyone else having the same problem? Is this the typical way to change saturation in Premiere Pro?

Why are people clamoring about this? It’s a useless workflow without an actual render to codec….

OK, managed to install it...

I'm very sorry, but I have to report that this is ****KIN AMAZING! :)

Congratulations RED Team !!!

I can't believe this actually exists...

It's a milestone.

DV? HDV? Capture? WTF ?!!

This is da sh*t.

Dances With 4K_clips is happy.

Cheers.

:)

So is anyone getting saturation to work? If so can you please explain how.

Change Color is not the way to go. Try the 3-way Color Corrector, or the Levels, or RGB Curves, or even the Quick Color Corrector, all under the Color Correction menu. They all lead to saturation, though I don't know how the r3d behave with all those filters yet....

I'm not sure if i'm a complete numb nut, but i can't get the installer to work!!!
Same problem as Karapetkov had.

The installer reports "out of disk space--volume '%temp%'; required space: 1,520KB; available space 0kb. Free some disk space and try again"

I have plenty of disk space to spare!!

If anyone could offer some advice that would be great!

Can't wait to check out the plugin, thanks

For Reals

For Reals

Before anybody jumps at adobe's throat cause of crashes. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. Meet the requirements, update Premiere/AfterEffects, install the importer, watch the ENTIRE workflow video and have a clean system. Ive built and maintenance to many systems with all sorts of CRAP taking up processor/memory. Whats that old saying R T Fkn M!! In this workflow MEMORY is king and understanding a big second.

First, thanks a lot for this new amazing tool :)

I love After Effects for Color Correction and Composition, and I know that for now the importer is a beta, but I've seen some problems with the workflow.

I'd like to use a 2K workflow:

1) Edit all in realtime at 4K Quarter in Premiere Pro.
2) Create a new project at 4K Half HQ in Premiere Pro (for 2K) to use later in AE (using the trick of save and open and verifying that the metadata is correct, 4K Half HQ).
3) Open the entire project in AE at 4K Half HQ (because I don't need more resolution for CC and it works faster than 4K). The composition is ok at 2K... but wait! here is the first problem, I've noticed that in AE all files are imported at 4K Full. I've tried to change in AE the metadata but it seems that you can't change 'Full' parameter, you only can change it in Premiere. So I need to rescale all r3d files in the project to the comp size (2K) and work at 4K instead of 2K (it will be better for performance).

Another problem I've noticed, but this is not very important for me, is that all r3d files imported doesn't interpretate correctly. I've copied and pasted the line in the interpretation rules txt, but always import the files as Linear Light and I can't change the interpretation of the file to Rec. 709 profile if the project is set to None (I've seen in the video tutorial how he could do it!). So for now, I'm working with 'None' color profile both at project and files and I need to change all files manually to uncheck Liner Light for 32 bits.

Last problem is that I can't see nothing with my both reference monitors (1 SD and 1 HD 1080p) when editing with Premiere Pro at 4K Quarter. I have an AJA Kona 3 Card but I've tried all the different ways that Premiere Pro offers you to use: 625i, 1080i, 1080p... at 8 bits, 10 bits... etc... but no one works well. Anyone has the same problem? Anyway, for now I can live with that problem, because the quality at 1K in Premiere Pro is a lot better and plays smoother than Final Cut with proxies.

Note: I've tried to install AJA Mac Plugins for Adobe (I'm not sure if it will resolve this), but it seems that it only works for CS3, because the installation fails with CS4.

Thanks for all RED Team!! :)
Chester.

AJA has not yet released the CS4 drivers for Kona 3 - but I hear their elves are hard at work ...

It's probably just a buried setting or switch somewhere but I'm not getting the ColorFinesse color-corrections I make to the .R3D files in Premiere to "bake" into the final render from the render queue. The corrections appear fine in the preview monitor. Any suggestions? Will keep testing to see if I can find the solution.

ISSUE SOLVED: I solved my earlier issue by avoiding Adobe Dynamic Link altogether when going from Premiere to After Effects for the render. Now the color grades I make in Premiere are "baking" into the final render from After Effects no probs. Here's my current workflow -

1) Edit and color grade in Premiere CS4 (with latest update applied) and save.
2) Open AE CS4 (with latest update applied) and go File/Import/Adobe Premiere Pro Project and choose the master sequence of the Premiere project
3) Composition/New Composition and set to the dimensions desired
4) Drop imported Premiere sequence onto the new composition timeline
5) Composition/Add To Render Queue
6) Tell the render engine what format you want and where, hit Render and your color corrections should bake into the final file - Bliss.

It's probably a simple case of user error but I'm losing my Premiere color grades when I use anything related to Adobe Dynamic Link to move the project to AE. Looking forward to testing a Premiere timeline with a mix of 4K and 2K footage and different filters and effects (Timewarp etc.) to see if they will port through to the final render. And to think this is still in Beta - can't wait for the future updates. Good work team.

PS: Handy Tip - I also use the free utility "End It All 2" when I boot-up and before I open any video applications to kill any unwanted background tasks running in Windows XP and free up system resources (you'd be surprised how many there are!). This is not an Adobe or RED specific thing as I've been using End It All for years, but it can help make your system a tad more sprightly.
