  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Released: R3D Data Manager for Mac v6.1

Do you have the same checksum types enabled? Are you selecting the folder above the RDM folder as the source? The "verify all checksums" is the old "check checksums" button, just better worded now.

Hi Conrad.
Yes I am selecting the same checksums as were used and am selecting the folder that is one above the RDM as the destination. Still the button is grayed out and I can't check the checksums.
Nir.

1st day with the new r3d manager.

Impressed by the copying speeds!
Feels safer (never had problems with r3d manager on earlier projects)

One thing (and this is a tiny little gripe) i miss from SPP, is that it automatically saves the log to the copy destination. With r3d manager I have to find the locations manually, and if I copy multiple media, the log goes for all the media copied and not separately for each volume.

Would have loved to have a "auto save log to destination folder" function.
With only the relevant log info for each copy pass...

But this is just nitpicking.

Love it!

Conrad,

I just did a quick test.

RDM doing single copy and Finder doing single copy.

Activity Monitor shows RDM getting about 65MB/s and Finder getting 120MB/s.

Why is Finder going so much faster?

This was not using Red media.

If I use RDM for a single destination I am getting about 65MB/s read and write

If I go to two destinations, it become about 30MB/s read and 65MB/s write

When I go to three destinations I get 26MB/s read and 70MB/s write

You definitely have something better going on for multiple copies, but it seems like something is slowing down single copies.

I really want to use RDM more, but I just don't have enough time on most of the shows I do.

Thanks,
Dusty

What's so different about 6.1 and 6.0? I purchased the latter last week.

.... about 65MB/s read and write
.... 65MB/s write
.... 70MB/s write

Seems like there is something holding up the write. Remember that the program is also calculating checksums at the same time. So perhaps your processor isnt up to the task - which would be weird since checksums are easy for most modern processors these days.

What's so different about 6.1 and 6.0? I purchased the latter last week.

From the changelog:

- Fixed a bug that caused extremely slow copies in Mac OS 10.5

- Updated Quicktime Render for RedRocket support

- Updated Quicktime Render for new color science

- Added support for new gamma and color spaces

- Added checking to ensure output codec is supported

- Changed user interface so the buttons and icon display overall status for all copies

- View Results button now shows all results for all copied folders, not just the one selected

- Retry All Errors now retries all errors for all sources

- Fixed a bug with verify checksums button not finding original checksums

- Now shows in the activity log if writing to a destination was skipped by user preference

- Removed alternate checksum folder option, no longer needed

- Fixed an error when sources would be read even if the copy is to be skipped to all destinations

Its a free upgrade for the few on 6.0, so might as well do it.

Im not sure I see whats different that what R3D Data Manager already does. Heres the logs it creates:

- ProjectInformation.txt: at the root of the destination, contains all the project info you set PLUS a listing of all the copies made

- View All Results: can save the current copy run to a log file

- ~/library/application support/r3d data manager/logs/: Logs the entire copy process automatically, including bytes copies and all destinations. The logs here are automatically written each time the copy is started, and swept away after 30 days.

How do I go about getting my free upgrade from 6.0? I've only received an email about upgrading and paying for it.

I have tested R3D Data Manager in the past, and indeed purchased a copy for a company I worked for. For various reasons I found it was not suitable for my needs, and since leaving that company I have not purchased my own personal license.

It would seem that version 6.1 may have resolved the issues I had, so I downloaded the trial version from a link in an email I received. However I have not been able to test it, as it asks for a registration key when launched.

I have tried to contact Conrad by email and Red User PM to ask about this, but have had no reply.

Has anybody else successfully used the demo?

The splash screen tells you the trial code.

Don't see it on the 6.1 splash screen.

The R3D Data Manager web site says "We will send you an email with the download link and trial registration code info." But I got my download link from a newsletter mailing, and that did not contain a code.

Download it again from the website direct.
Always safer to do that anyway never download anything from an email link too easy to intercept.

We have replied to all support requests we have received as of this moment. There have been a few people who entered an invalid email address so we were not able to reply to them.

The code is shown in the lower left of the registration window on the first startup. You need to enter it then.

He may be talking about our newsletter, as that sounds like my words. If so, I think its safe. :)

I have not received any PMs from you.

Strange. It is in my Red User PM 'sent' mail box.

Email sent to conrad [at] r3ddata.com which you have set me mail from in the past.

Sorry for re-posting but still need to know:
