  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RELEASED: New REDCINE-X, ROCKETcine-X, and RED Rocket Installer

the overall performance of this version is better for me than the last - especially the color curves are much more responsive. oddly 1/8 playback is consistently faster than 1/16. i would love to be able to have the playback rates of redcine. i miss 1/2 res med or full at 1:1.
i'm running a dual quad 2.8 pc, win xpx64, 16gb ram with nvidia 4600. just an observation: comparing the performance, redcine uses more system resources and achieves faster playback rates where redcine-x is not using as much cpu and, perhaps as expected, does not make the same playback rates - anyway to use more of the system power?

regardless, thank you. this version performs well enough that i will make the transition from redcine. cheers. you guys are awesome.

I cannot set the export settings for QT in Redcine X (build 54/PC).
After setting the compression properties and hitting ok, the whole export-settings-window disappears... I was able to save a new QT-preset without any adjustments in compression but when I try to edit -> same as above... then the preset resets to the default H264 setting - so that's the only QT codec I can use :-(

I've been away from the forum for a while...

Last night tried RedCine-X for the first time and... Holy S@!T--it totally rocks!!!

I've always loved the concepts in RedCine and X brings it to an entirely new level--quantum leap--paradigm shift level!

I've been designing software interfaces for a long, long time, and I'm a bit of a professional at it as doing so affords me my Red "soon to be Epic" hobby. And I have to say--Really tremendous work, guys, beautiful, intuative, interface--very well designed--first class work!

Everyone's looking for this feature or that, this fix or that--maybe because they've been in it for a while and it has become every day to them, but to see it for the first time--it is truely stunning.

At Camera 516, I've been playing with RedCine since the beginning and all I can say is with a beta like this--I can't wait to see what it does by the time Epic rolls around.

Keep up the great work!

Thom

It happened to me too. Minimize the application and you will find the settings window :) .

The cache has never worked for me either... well at least not on any practical level. In the future can we chose how much memory should be used for caching? Currently on a 14 second clip playing back at 1/2 res...the cache will only do about one second of the 14 second clip. When you pause the playback nothing at all is caching.

It uses the maximum that it can but it currently limited to about two gig (because of third party libs like Quicktime, etc). When we can separate things and make it 64 bit it'll be able to have a much larger cache.

One thing that can also slow it down is if the browser is still loading clips.
We'll be making that have less of an impact in the next version.

HI Deanan,

I'm working with a dual quad xeon 2.8 PC running Vista 64bit OS with 20GB memory.

Audio does not work on the timeline but clips rendered out have audio. Is audio turned on yet?

Also will there be resets for individual settings? In other programs I've used, if you double click the slider bar pointer it would reset just that parameter.

Will the PC version have Avid DNxHD export options?

Thanks for all your hard work. Looking great so far.

aloha,

Keith

I've installed this build and it works fine for me except......

The image is from a section of a R3D file rendered out to 1920 rec 709 dpx files.

I've seen this highlight problem before, well something similar, on extreme contrast transitions with the Viper.

The horizontal hard lines is what you should be looking at.

Can we get a copy of that R3D?

Windows XP sp3

On re launch all clips in build are noted as "failed to load"

Click off the folder and back on and the r3d's start to show up again.
the clips are all there, just hover over you get black and failed to load error.

How's the feedback on the window system?

I'm not sure it's working quite good, specially for people with only one monitor.

However, with two monitors it must work nice.

I thought the windows were stackable, something in a Adobe GUI fashion.

The windows version could ditch the default top window chrome and have a custom GUI for that too.

Can someone please confirm if audio is working or not in the RedCine-X PC version?

I'm working with a dual quad xeon 2.8 PC running Vista 64bit OS with 20GB memory.

thanks.

It is but it's not yet been fully tested on all OS versions and different hardware to confirm.

Note that the download files for REDCINE-X now include an Operations Guide....

I cannot turn off the audio during playback. It plays regardless. That could be the hit to performance that a lot of people are seeing. The timeline scaleability and visual reference between different clips needs to be implemented in the next build. This program still doesn't seem very user friendly. Why can't you import camera mags as quickly and easily as regular redcine? It just seems to take forever to navigate between different clips on a project.

Just loaded Redcine-X 54 on windows...

I don't have any FLUT control, and when I attempt to close the application the floating windows remain, and then pick-up imagery from other applications when opened/closed in the same locations.

Any ideas?
