  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RELEASED: FIRMWARE - BUILD 16 (v3.1.5)

Is there a way to have false color on one button and edge highlight on the other (on the EVF)

So far I've only figured out how to have Edge Highlight or False color selected and the Color button activates either one.

I'm liking false color more and more but I'd like to toggle between regular, False color to check exposure and edge highlight to check focus.

Oh please yes! I just DIT'd with my RED for a feature shoot and we did most on CF cards which had to be changed and formatted 20 to 30 times a day. And every time the DP had to take it's eye away from the viewfinder and wait for the process. Sure, it is only 2 or 3 seconds but if you're composing a shot it is pretty distracting.

I would also be happy if formatting would take 1 or 2 clicks less.

Good thought. I think this is a really good idea. Maybe one of the user buttons?

I would love it if we could turn the three buttons to the left of the rear screen into user configurable buttons as well. Sometimes I am always changing the ASA and sometimes I only need to set it once for the whole day, on days like those I would love it if I could make the ASA button a user configurable button.

And also during boot the preview is awesome but the logo is blocking my view.. I think it could be in a corner, or no logo at all and just some text in the corner..

Also, during a format of a drive or a card we should be able to see through the lens as well!

Working on the viability of that...

ha yeah but it would be good...

a drive formatting would definitely be sweet because it takes a "while." but honestly I mean, it would be great if there was always an image on the screen, why should it ever be blocked out?

Build 16 is still Beta... but you shouldn't let that stop you!

I think it is now less buggy than any build thus far. I recommend the upgrade.

I'm okay to wait a little longer. I have a few friends leading the way with 16 and have had issues so I am waiting for the thumbs up from them.
 
Issues I am curious about are workflow and codec error.

When Crimson is up to speed and the reports of codec errors are fewer, I'll jump in.

When an unformated card is inserted, couldn't the camera automatically ask if you want to format ?
A shortcut for "format" would be nice too. Not 1 button, more something like a 3 button combination, to be sure. Then if the card is unformated, it would format it without any prompt, and it is already formated, it would ask something like "are you sure ? etc..."
And I agree, it would be cool if all this didn't take the full screen.

Also, I may have missed it, but is there a shortcut to unmount the card without going through the menus ?

Yes, but the issue is that I find I want quick access to both false color and edge highlight and there is no way to quickly get between the two, that I know of, while they are in the same menu. If edge highlight was in assists i could just as easily switch to it with one button and then switch to false color with one button.

Just wanting confirmation - the title of this thread suggests the new 16 build is no longer Beta (as it says Released - Firmware - Build 16 (v3.1.5) whereas normally we see Beta Build 16.

Does this mean it's a full release now?

Guess I'm the only one this happened to, but when I upgraded to this version of 16 my camera would not boot off the DC adapter. I tried about 10 times. Then I tried a battery and it booted. No biggie, but just an FYI in case anyone has this happen.

Also, my 150wh off brand batteries now work. They never booted the camera until build 16. Bonus!

I have had this sometimes on earlier builds. I wonder has anyone else? I can't recall anyone ever posting this.
Can anyone at RED explain, or provide a remedy? Thanks.
