  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Released: Beta Firmware - Build 15

Does anybody elses camera crash with an HDMI cable inserted?
As well, my camera will not boot with HDMI cable inserted!
I've tried with both versions of build 15 properly installed. Other functions seem to work just fine.

Would it be possible to make the Op Guide for Build 15 (v2.1.7) available for download for non-Red owners? Currently only (v1.8.8) is freely available for download on Red's site. I realize Build 15 is still in beta but I have a DIT job coming up in a few weeks and would like to get familiar with 15 as soon as possible.

Thanks

Yes, mine crashes with 2.1.7. I just plugged my camera into my Samsung 42" LCD, and it crashed the camera. If I boot the camera with the HDMI already connected, the camera won't proceed past the "booting..." entry on the LCD.

I was going to mess around with DVI input on the monitor, and also try previewing on an 24" LCD monitor, but I haven't had a chance yet.

Can I output the RED to a monitor with a composite input. I was trying to last night after updating to 15 and couldn't seem to get it to work. I'm using a Marshall monitor. Its other inputs are component and YPrPb, which don't seem helpful.

You can't connect the Red directly to monitor composite or component inputs because Red has no analog video outputs. However, I believe people are using an AJA converter box for this function.

Yes, I have been having the same problem since I got my camera (build 8, I believe). If I plug HDMI into my Sony 46" Bravia the camera freezes. Even if the TV is powered off I get the same thing. It's strange, the camera controls freeze up, but I continue to see a live picture in the LCD. The only way to fix is a hard restart.

Stuart was looking into this for me awhile back, I wonder if he ever turned anything up?

Stuart would need to chime in on a more technical reply, but I believe the monitor you are plugging into needs to support variable PC resolutions, not just TV resolutions.

I used an HDMI cable to Dell PC monitor with build 2.1.3 last week without issue (other than a bulky, stiff, 50' cable on the set.) It produced a very usable picture for the director.

The other solution is HD-SDI --> BlackMagicDesign HDLink --> HDMI --> PC/Mac Monitor.

Same here. Just an old 17" Samsung LCD over HDMI. Aspect ratio was a bit off (better with menus than without) and the image a bit green but for the price the producer couldn't complain. And a stiff cable that sticks out on the side. (reminds me that I have to find some right angle adaptor...)
