  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Release Camera Build 3.2.16

We suffered the split screen of death today on set. Camera stopped recording and gave us the "call red ASAP" warning. Rolled them both back to 3.0.7 and that's where they'll stay for now. Strange, didnt have a single issue with the previous beta firmware.

Thank you, and Playback icon color scheme.

Thank you, and Playback icon color scheme.

There were some really great changes in this build, Red Team. Excellent work. I especially appreciate the newer 16:9 modes, the ability to go to Playback with one button, and the revised User Key selection list (alphabetical order, more-or-less).

One thing I'd love to see: a different icon color scheme in Playback. It can often be difficult to see which icon is selected with the middle gray on light gray color scheme, or even if the 'playback icon bar' is active at all. I know it's not as hip as gray on gray (like this forum), but, then, neither am I.

I know there are lots of wish lists, and I have mine, but as long as you keep on adding features and refining things we'll all be happy in the end.

Thank you,
Nelson

Fan settings seem to be less accurate with 3.2.16. If I set my standby speed to 60%, the display will show the fan running at 66%. If I set it to 55%, it's running at 58%. Not sure if it's an issue with what the display shows or what the fan is reporting or what, but kind on strange.

In this new build the rack focus is instantaneous whereas the last build I used was a nice slow 1-2 second pull. Are there menus anywhere to set the duration of the rack focus or is this coming in future builds?

This is a must in order to get nice racks!

I'm still having the half-white half-black screen on boot up but I guess I'm not the only one. Hitting the magnify button a few times and waiting 15 seconds will sometimes clear it without pulling the plug.

Had the white screen come up on the initial update. It then disappeared now its back most of the time. The Redmote is inactive when this happens tried the "mag zoom" button but no joy. On reboots it is coming back. If on set or in the field, I noticed it seems it can be reset by pulling the touch screen lemo & replugging.

I'm rolling back to an earlier version until this bug is solved.

Would it be possible to add a feature whereas holding down the power button continuously and then pressing some other button on the side handle or LCD will cause it to do a 'soft' reboot instead of a hard shutdown?

I'm sure there's a better key combination than what I'm suggesting, but ... you get the idea.

This would come in real handy for situations like the LCD being totally white.

And maybe add a 'soft reboot' menu item in the shutdown menu would be nice also - as some features require a reboot.

We already have a soft shutdown by pressing and holding the brain power button for 2 seconds. Just let go before the hard shutdown kicks in.

When can we have Sensor Flip/Flop just as the same as R1?

Seems some people are getting bizarre "black and white split screen" crashes...
Makes me wonder if this build is actually safe for commercial shoots..?

Just installed it in my EPIC-X yesterday. No problem at all, and the new features are great! I just noticed that my 5"LCD is brighter in the lower side... didn't have that with the old buids (or maybe didn't noticed it before).

It would be good if people said which camera are they having the black/white/split screen problem, if they are EPICs or SCARLETs.

Cheers and thanks to the RED TEAM for a great update.

P.S.: Just noticed that the Touchscreen Test and the Sensor Test disappeared from the menus, is that true or it's only me?

Upgraded our Epic yesterday; appears to be working well, but have not had a chance to test all functions. The upgrade sequence did not go as per instructions, which was a bit scary and upgrading the Redmote was, shall we say, an adventure.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

I haven't upgraded the firmware since December. Everything "worked" perfectly so I "didn't fix it". Just upgraded to this build and it feels like yet another new RED camera.

Thanks guys. I'm loving the +/- buttons for aperture control. Y'all know how much I like the Canon glass. :)

The vast amount of customization available to our shortcut keys are awesome. I see the UI design is coming along nicely...even the sublte changes are muc appreciated.

A few more tests this morning; unfortunately, I got the split screen and a solid white screen a couple of times on booting up. Disconnecting/reconnecting the LCD cleared the problem, but just adding more stress on the cable & connector.

Also, I can't figure out how to receive a stereo signal to the headphones; phantom power working fine, but we'd like to monitor with both ears. Any help appreciated.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo
