i asked this about a year ago and got some vague non answers....

what happens to all the traded in R1s?

will we be able to buy them? will they be cheaper than the Scarlet s35? do we get the option of keeping the old sensor for an even greater discount?

can i be put on a waiting list?

thanks!

Once the serial numbers have been written off I suspect they will be farmed out to film schools and the like for a discount price in order to get the kids on the wagon as it were....

forget the schools !!!
create ART with em ... how about a 30ft arch way ( made of 1000's of Redones) that you drive under when you enter new studio/home in Las Vegas ??

Hang On a second...
I thought when these reds get "exacuted" they are kept my the users, just can't be used for any more future redemptions, not sent back...did I miss something?cause to my mind that's a bit odd if someone spent 37 grand on a cam and sent it back then got a newer better one but Although most bits will work with it,it won't be AS good as th new stuff...so?then you spend extra...I dunno...maybe I'm just tired but this does sound rather confusing but I do like the sound of a cheap red one!

Way I hear it RED has bought a big car crusher to make blocks of RED1 cameras to build a really solid arch where no one will be trying to steal the blocks to make thier own cheap movie.

IF they give these to film schools every time one of them comes up at a state auction RED looses a scarlet sale....Yup CRUSHED!!!

Maybe another way to see it.... So Jim's acct says we take in the camera for 15K and take a write down on the loss, so Jim gets a big tax rebate next year..... LOL

maybe rehouse the sensors with ASICs and make a limited run of 4k scarlet brains in the $5000 range
(or less since the sensors would be refurbished/pre-owned)
