Please take the Reformat button off the same page as the Eject button. Seems like an accident waiting to happen. Who else agrees?

We've had this discussion many times before. There are two confirmations after the initial press of the format button. Both include the color red and the number of clips you are about to delete. There is even a caution tape border. There is only so much we can do if you are in auto-pilot-not-going-to-read-the-dialog-and-just-press-buttons mode.

I know, I know but there shouldn't be the delete button right next to the eject-your-new-footage-quickly-because-you-just-rolled-out-and-the-director-is-mad-the-producer-too-better-change-mags-fast-hurry-whats-the-delay-everybody-is-waiting-button. we've all had those Mike Judge moments.

If this is truly a concern for you use the 1 + 2 button press on the SSD side of the camera or map a specific key to eject media. Then you only go to the menu to format the mag.

I'm personally on the side of this is far from an issue, even under pressure.

Fair enough. I think I'm a little over this topic since we've put in many safe-guards and warnings. The truth is the format and eject buttons are not next to each other. The format button doesn't actually format the media anyway, it kicks off a multi-step process. I apologize if my original response was a bit brash.

I actually find it much better like it is now, all media related actions on the same page.

I also 95% of the time use 1+2 buttons...like many RUs here...

Once your brain is programmed for 1+2 there's no way back...much better (and faster too!)

I agree that ejecting media by pressing User Keys 1+2 is both faster and safer than using the menu. I think the larger issue is not to rush on set. Work fast, but work safe and under control. Just like changing lenses, batteries or filters, changing mags (especially film mags!) takes a certain amount of time, and procedures need to be followed. Mag labels need to be transferred from the camera body and applied. Media needs to be handed off safely from the 1st AC to 2nd AC to DIT. Fresh media needs to be verified and then formatted. It only takes a few seconds to do properly, but it needs to be done according to protocol. The director or AD who is rushing you is not going to appreciate it if you rush and make a mistake, possibly costing the production more time and money. Don't let yourself be rushed. Work fast, but work safe.

Well said Satsuki, and I find the same approach applies to media ingesting on set...

Always use bit by bit verification copy instead of the standard copy algorithms!

Slower but safer!
