Hello,

Quick question, is it normal for REDVOLT's to drain by 20% over night? I was testing some new lights last night, threw on a REDVOLT that had been sitting for about 3 weeks and didn't pay attention to how charged it was, but by the end of the tests it was down to about 30%. I threw it on the charge last night, took it off about 2 hours later when the charger is a solid green and put in on the self. Tonight I tossed in the epic and boom it was at round 88% just by sitting out over night.

Could this be a bad battery or is the to be expected?

Thanks

Tom

When the light on the charger turns green it doesn't mean 'fully charged' - I would have to go back to the manual, but I think it turns at around 80% just enough that if you were in a tight spot you could use the battery and get decent time out of it.

Yea... they seem to be like most of the new generation of batteries... they charge up to 80'ish percent quickly (hour or two) but FULL charge takes longer.

I don't trust RedVolt percentages. I turn my camera on, start my timer for 25 min and swap at the next convenient moment. The Redvolts are good for 25-35 min. Just bought a v-mount system. Sure they're a little bulky, but I don't like thinking about battery life when I'm trying to concentrate on shooting. Now my RedVolts are for keeping the camera powered between v-mount swaps and ultralight and quick handheld scenarios.

I've had the same experience. Of course if you leave it in the handle overnight, the LED indicator itself adds to the drain. I'm curious, does anyone know who makes the cells in the Redvolts. I'm even a bit more conservative than Andy. 20 minutes and it's out of there unless in the middle of a shot.

Yeah, I have a V-Mount system I really only use it when I'm doing shoots and not test (most of my tests are less than 15-20 on the actual camera). Plus for me the V-mount adds a ton of weight if I'm trying to do literal hand helds (no rig or anything just body, lens and LCD).

They drain pretty quickly when left in the body even if it's not on. It seems like if I leave it in there for 3 days it'll be dead no matter what. Apparently that tiny LED on the side of the brain pulls a lot of watts :(
