I could see that one new company in a near future will be named REDVISION.

This is just in case that Panavision could continue to lose its money

and Jim could be somehow "forced" to take over Panavision because in that case it would be much easier for RED to compete against Sony and Arri.

Actually this could be FANTASTIC because RED would get excellent rental facilities worldwide, amazing set of Panavision lenses,

also all Panavision film cameras (16mm, 35mm & 65mm) and much easy access to stream new RED-X, EPIC and SCARLET to the main Hollywood movie productions.

In that case all of them REDVISION, SONY and ARRI would be somehow balanced on the market and competition between them would be much easier.

So what'ya think?

But maybe it's just a dream...!!!???

Or also my two Austrian Schillings :biggrinjester:

Panavision has dozens of offices all over the world. Just because LA is slowing down doesn't mean the company has come to a standstill.

And why would you think RED would want to buy them anyway, as if they were for sale?

I can't believe I'm even commenting on something so silly.

I don't know, it's just an idea even if is so silly or I would say it's more like a crazy :biggrinjester:

Also doesn't exist in this sort of business a company that makes cameras and lenses only, have a huge success and powerful influence.

The rule of the business is that you would have to do a lot of things more in the case that you could survive in the industry.

So a possible buyout of Panavision would fit perfect in a strategy to get wider market share and influence.

Please keep in mind - these were just some thoughts in these hot summer nights :cheers2:

:attention9ha:

Sanjin - this idea of RED buying Panavision.... delusional perhaps?

A) Don't think Panavision will be up for sale....

B) I don't think Jim would consider... Not sure, I do not know him personally but it really doesn't make sense...

It's a part of my summer's creative and critical thinking about Red (for example)...

The most of great ideas were described from the beginning as a crazy or silly...

We should talk more about it in a year or two...

"Lose", not "Loose".

Panivision should pay Red to own their business.

But Panavision made a profit this last quarter according to that LA Times article. What's this "continue losing money" business?

{Despite the drop in business, Panavision still generates an operating profit and has cash flow of about $70 million,

said people familiar with the company. But much of that goes toward servicing its debt, which is held by a consortium of banks headed by Credit Suisse.

"We can very effectively manage the debt level that we have," Bevins said.

"But if at any point in time we have capital needs that go beyond that, we can always look to our shareholder [Perelman], and he's been supportive of us."}

It's just in the case that Perelman one day say NO to Panavision then... read more about it above!!!

Would you be so kind to elaborate more....

Can you imagine RED wanting to be in the business of trying to sell Sony products? For lots of people Sony is the best solution. Working to provide the best possible workflows for your competitor isn't the best business model I can think of. But if you're going to be a rental house you want to be a problem solver not a narrow single provider source of equipment.
