REDUSER Party/Workflow Event Recap

It was great to have so much information and so many new products on display in one place. I learned a lot of new tricks and was able to demo a bunch of new widgets. Steve, you and all of the folks involved in putting it together did an excellent job. My thanks and appreciation for putting this on.

Yeah let me join everyone in saying thanks to the organizers -
And next year I say we get tshirts with

2009 2nd Annual Red User Group.

Thanks so much for all your hard work Steve. Great party and a good chance to put faces to people.

I was amazed by how humble Ian Bloom was. He creates this fantastic tool all by himself that works so well for so many and spoke like it was nothing. Crimson is great and everyone should check it out. All I can say is if there were a few more Ian Bloom's out there developing workflow solutions for us Red post would be a lot easier to deal with. At under $200 Crimson is a no brainer. I know that Greg at digital FX has been having great success with it. In fact it would be nice if Greg was able to comment on it. Below is a link to the Crimson site and at 189.99 a it's a no brainer. Another link below shows video of some of Ian's fine work.

Crimson Rocks!!!

We use it every day to finish projects in Smoke 2K...the cost of the app pays for itself the first time you use it. Thanks Ian for sharing this with the community!

Great job, Steve! I had fun and learned a lot. It was as good as going to NAB... but just for Red Users.

But next time, give use more raffle tickets! My poor little one raffle ticket couldn't compete with those two guys that were given handfuls at the end and won everything. lol. :)

Steve,

you did a fantastic job, pulling this great event together, it was a gret pleasure meeting you Mark and Mark and all the many REDUSERs I got to meet, which I was looking forward to meet for some time now, like Shawn Nelson, and many many others.

Steve,

Thanks for making this happen. Sorry I didn't get a chance to introduce myself. You were always so BUSY. Anyway, it was a great opportunity to meet a bunch of the gang.

Special thanks once again for the fabulous KETCH!! for being so gracious and kind enough to make us all a wonderful Tiramisu. It was a unique Birthday for me, I must say ;). Hope some of you got to try the Sambuca with the cake. Great combo!

Next time I'd suggest less time on raffles and more time allowing people to mingle, drink and eat.

So let's make it a group effort next year.

Steve, THANKS for starting what I hope will be a long tradition.

Cheers,
M

Mark, it was a pleasure meeting you and celebrating your birthday with you, I enjoy sipping on the Sambuca Romana, even so I don't drink, and I must say that I was so very please to see almost all 40lb of Tirami Su' gone, I say almost because I put one tray away for the guys at the RED booth, which got to enjoy the day after.

Again what a greta event, it was such a great pleasure talking to al of you guys there, and learning a bit more about the workflow possibility with RED, as well as seen on first hand the many accessories for RED, especially Erik and the Birger mount, but it was also a pleasure finally meeting Stephen Pizzo from ET and his partner, great guys, with tone of more stuff on the works for our RED, what a party!

Ciao

Thanks Ketch for bringing some by the booth. That's the best Tirami Su I've ever had. Really!

My pleasure Deanan, very happy that you enjoy it, that is the Tuscan way of making Tirami Su', and obviously was made with Italian Mascarpone.

Jay, I wish we met at the party, but it was so packed there that meeting every one was almost impossible. Next time Steve try not to make an event so dam good, this way we can all meet each other:biggrin:

Ciao

Ketch, I'm sorry I didn't sample any of your cooking. My cohort and I left early - other parties and whatnot. Nice to see you again!

Jay, I was on course to say hi and introduce myself on more than one occasion. I saw you earlier on tuesday at the RED tent and later at the party. Sorry for not following though... I kept getting sidetracked and lost track of people a lot. Although I think you were about the only one I saw that day in the red RED shirt.

Lots of people I wanted to meet, but I never ran across them. Or if I did, I didn't know it because I didn't make it a point to read their name badge. ...I wasn't wearing mine at the workflow event / party. ...Spent a lot of time just catching up with the RED people from my own town.

Guys hate to be pushy about this, but I really need to know the name of the company that was showing off their LCD at the REDparty.. Please inform A.S.A.P.

I need one of those things.

I echo all the sentiment of this thread ... great event - both educational and social, thanks to Steve and all the speakers and to Ketch, (fantastic Tirami Su' and Sambuca Romana), nice to meet everyone I was able to identify, wish I had met and identified more Reduser posters ...

However, regarding Ian Bloom, I thought I would share a very interesting moment which I witnessed that some may find amusing. It felt like I was fly -on-the-wall to a classic "David and Goliath" mixed with a "Forest Gump" type Red moment.

It occurred not at the Reduser event, but the next night at the FCPUG Super meet. I was sitting with Ian at Torrey Loomis' Silverado table way in the corner of the reception room, where he was quietly demonstrating the finer details of the Crimson Workflow to me. When suddenly, the energy of the place shifted dramatically as two men purposefully stride to the table and silently demanding Ian's attention.

Ian graciously greeted the taller man by name (name tag), and was then introduced to the other fellow. The overall tone of the exchange was one of mighty gladiators circling one and other to assess the strength of their opponent. They then enter into a dialog which seem to close out the hundreds of other people in the room.

It turns out that the two men were Roland from Apple and a head honcho from Arri. I do not remember all the exact words spoken, but the two heavy weights were clearly there to assess this impertinent upstart with his rogue software making big ripples in the little pond. Big fish vs little fish ... very interesting indeed.

I do remember Roland leaning in and saying, with not so subtle overtones, something about Apple addressing the Red Workflow ... Ian, ever so respectfully, enthusiastically replied "YES, PLEASE, put me out of business, we have been waiting for it!!!" This took Roland aback a bit and he was momentarily speechless. I do not think that he was at all ready for Ian being Ian. Roland did say that Ian was certainly a straight shooter and that he really appreciated that.

I will to say that Ian met the challenge with grace and aplomb. If points had scored, I would have given the winning points to Ian ... no doubt about.

At least no headlocks were exchanged during that particular conversation, Ian...
