I want to thank everyone who came out for the event last night. It was a great time. We were treated to some great presentations, including a tour de force by Mike Seymour from fxphd. Mike really did a good job of illustrating the workflow and he gave the crowd some good laughs too. All I can say is look into those courses over at fxphd. If last night was any indication, these guys know their stuff and know how to teach it.

Tom Burns gave us a look at what he terms "old school" approach to how they are dealing with RED, basically treating it like a film workflow. He emphasized that you have to make sure sure your metadata's integrity is maintained throughout the entire post process.

David Newman of Cineform gave us some insight into what they are doing with Cineform and 4K workflow. This was a good indication that once the SDK is released, there are going to be many tools developed to address all kinds of workflow needs.

Ian Bloom talked about Crimson Workflow. This was interesting because Ian is first and foremost a DP but created tools to help him use the RED footage the way he wanted to. But Ian stressed that he is a just a "dude" not a company with full support. So, you have to keep that in mind if you buy the product. Even though he's not a software company, I think this is a tool that will still help a lot of people, and clearly people have appreciated the effort as was indicated by the response Ian got last night.

Lucas Wilson from Assimilate discussed the Scratch workflow and the various solutions/modules they offer. He talked about the new Scratch Cine which is essentially a pre-post tool used to prepare R3D files for the post production process. Lucas addressed pricing for the various products.

Jerry Hofmann gave us a fun look into RED workflow from his perspective as an editor and said that he has seen 4 revolutions in this industry in his 35 years in the biz. 3/4" tape which allowed corporate video to move away from 16mm and expanded that industry exponentially, Avid, DV and Final Cut Pro, and now RED. Jerry said that after working with RED footage, he never wants to work with regular video again. H has been so impressed with the footage that it is hard to go back. He also discussed the Log and Transfer plug-in and Ted Schilowitz jumped up and announced they had posted it for download as a beta plug-in. Everyone seemed pretty excited about that. I've tried it and it works.

Steve Gibby and Graeme Nattress joined us for the interactive portion of the event which gave the audience a chance to ask some questions.

We had a great raffle. We gave away an Element Technica breakout box and viewfinder mount, a Toys4Red panel, Monstercine's cool mounting gadgets, best buy gift cards care of Globalstor, gift certificate from Doug Underdahl of Long Valley Equipment towards purchase of gear, gift certificate towards purchase or rental of Aqua Video's underwater housing, Birns & Sawyer gave away director's vewfinder and other goodies, a copy of Red Lightning's logging application for RED footage, and loads of T-shirts and hats

I want to thank everyone who helped sponsor the event.

It was great, Steve, and thank you so much for all your hard work getting it together. Such a good idea to have us meet face to face.

Steve,

Thank YOU for organizing this. I agree with Doug, it was very useful to meet those faceless names (or undercover URL's like myself). Hope this can become a yearly tradition with the Red Tribe. Like Mike said, this group is at the forefront of a new movement and can have considerable sway if we voice our opinions.

Thank you Steve, last night was really fun and informative. It was great being able to meet everyone from our online community. If you ever come up to Tahoe, send me a message. Thanks again.

Thanks to all for their hard work putting this event together; I only wish I'd known how much cool stuff was going to be raffled off, I'd have bought a bunch more tickets had I known the giveaways would go beyond the expected t-shirts and hats!

(But hey, I won the $500 gift certificate from Doug, so I can't complain!) :greedy:

<humor>
Graeme seems much taller when he posts.:)
</humor>.

Nice to see the Birger mount in action.

Negatives....Rabbit food and Gin don't mix. I had to leave before the raffle because my stomach was acting up. If Aquavideo won anything, I claim half, hehehe.

next year we'll try to do it again and come up with some cool things to make it a bit different. Maybe we'll do a short film contest to showcase what's being done with red.

Also a big shoutout to Jarred for providing reduser to everyone. I think we all forget sometimes that without his work this huge collective of filmmakers may not have the community that is in place.

Steve,

Thanks for organizing this event. I do have to apologize for not tracking you down and introducing myself. Same to many others here... I did a piss-poor job of saying hi to people. In fact, I found that I removed my name tag / NAB badge ASAP... way before I even got to the workflow event. Got annoyed with people pointing at me in recognition, but not saying anything. Or if they did, it was "hey! you're the reduser moderator guy... I thought you would be older..." Or "...I thought you would be taller..."

Yeah, I didn't say hi to as many people as I would have liked. It was actually a little overwhelming with the crowd as big as it was. Quite a turnout - I didn't really expect anywhere near that many people.

Great job Steve. Next year we'll probably have Scarlet and EPIC shorts to show!

Here's my rsvp for next year.

Steve, you rock! Thanks a mil for putting this on, I really enjoyed it. It was awesome to meet so many Redites :-)

Steve,

Thanks for making this happen. Sorry I didn't get a chance to introduce myself. You were always so BUSY. Anyway, it was a great opportunity to meet a bunch of the gang.

Special thanks once again for the fabulous KETCH!! for being so gracious and kind enough to make us all a wonderful Tiramisu. It was a unique Birthday for me, I must say ;). Hope some of you got to try the Sambuca with the cake. Great combo!

Next time I'd suggest less time on raffles and more time allowing people to mingle, drink and eat.

So let's make it a group effort next year.

Steve, THANKS for starting what I hope will be a long tradition.

Cheers,
M

Steve and crew -

This was great fun. Thanks for all your hard work. It was a pleasure to meet many of you. And thanks to all the vendors. Its so great to see the products live and in person.

PS - the magic email came today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to also say thanks Steve and crew, it certainly was nice to put a face behind the avitar....I would def meet up anytime of the year and dont hesitate to give us a shout if your in the brooklyn neighborhood.

best

Yes Bassam, I am working up a little treat right now...pics and videos. I hope by tomorrow I can have it all up on my blog which has proven a little more difficult then I thought but its coming!

there's video from the party? I kind of dropped the ball on that one. So if it exists I will buy someone many drinks next year.

Steve,

Thanks for pulling the party together!
I had a great time talking with everyone at the party.

The Red Booth was fantastic, EPIC, REDRAY & Scarlet continue to push the
envelope!

Dave

I add my thanks as well Steve!!!

The party was as informative as anything I attended at NAB and fun
to boot.

My Favorrite part was when someone asked if Graeme could tell us about
build 16 and Graeme stood up thought about it and said.....no.....then sat back down.
